NLC DIRECTS MEMBERS TO PROCEED ON STRIKE OVER NON-IMPLEMENTATION OF MINIMUM WAGE

NLC DIRECTS MEMBERS TO PROCEED ON STRIKE OVER NON-IMPLEMENTATION OF MINIMUM WAGE
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed its members in states that are yet to commence the implementation of the new minimum wage to commence an indefinite strike, beginning from December 1, 2024.

The directive is part of the resolutions of the NLC after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the NLC has also accused petroleum marketers of inflating the pump price of petrol, which it says is significantly higher than the actual market value.

The NLC allege that petrol marketers are exploiting Nigerians and adding to an already heightened suffering striding from governments harsh economic policies.

It noted that inflation continues to rise unchecked, with the costs of basic necessities spiraling beyond the reach of the average worker, among others.
The NLC demanded immediate, concrete interventions from the Federal Government, not token measures, to relieve the suffering.

Shooting Stars End El-Kanemi Warriors' Unbeaten Run With 3-0 Drubbing

Shooting Stars End El-Kanemi Warriors' Unbeaten Run With 3-0 Drubbing
It was a perfect response from Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) as the Ibadan soccer lords bounced back from last weekend's loss to Niger Tornadoes to wallop El- Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3-0, at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

Goals from Samuel Ayanrinde, Aliyu Abubakar'and substitute Mustapha Adams, ensured Oluyole Warriors secure all points over the visitors who had remained unbeaten prior to the matchday 11 encounter.

The coach Gbenga Ogunbote tutored lads never hide their hunger to get a descent win as they dominated proceedings and equally created more scoring chances

Samuel Ayanrinde opened scoring in the 26th minute, rising to nod home a well delivered cross by Gideon Monday.

Charged by their vociferous fans, the Stars doubled their lead 11 minutes later, when Aliyu Abubakar drove home from an impossible angle, thus giving his side a 2-0 lead into the break.

Apparently aiming for more goals, coach Gbenga Ogunbote introduced Mustapha Adams for Ayanrinde and this paid off in the 62nd minutes when the left footed forwrad's shot caught the El-Kanemi Warriors' goalie napping for the third goal.

The visitors tried to make some statement with their ball distribution, but they could hardly threaten goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal, who enjoyed the coverage from Gali Falke, Muritala Taiye, Desmond Ojietefian and Alex Aghahowa, who defended stoutly to prevent the northerners for finding the back of the net till the end of the game.

The win takes Shooting Stars' points haul to 15 from 11 matches and also moved the team to the 10th position on the log.

Up next for the Oluyole Warriors is a trip to Lagos for a South West derby against elite league debutant Ikorodu City, scheduled for this weekend

Ona Ara Local Government Hosts OYO-SOCU, Calls for Integrity in CBT Register Expansion
The Ona Ara Local Government, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Temitope Kolapo Glorious, recently welcomed the Oyo State Operations Coordinating Unit (OYO-SOCU), led by Acting Coordinator Mr. Ismaila Olatunji, for a critical sensitization session on the ongoing expansion of the Community-Based Targeting (CBT) Register. The session, aimed at educating the local government management team on OYO-SOCU’s data collection and registration procedures, emphasizes transparency and integrity in the selection process.

In a press statement released by the Chairman's Press Secretary, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, Dr. Glorious noted the importance of this engagement, which seeks to ensure that the local government is well-informed on the standards and processes required for accurate data gathering.

Speaking at the event, Acting Coordinator Mr. Ismaila Olatunji explained that Governor Seyi Makinde has recently approved a series of sensitization exercises for newly elected chairmen, empowering them with essential knowledge about OYO-SOCU’s data collection methods. He highlighted that this visit marks the third time the CBT initiative has been brought to Ona Ara Local Government, targeting key demographics such as elderly individuals, youth, widows, and persons with disabilities, with a goal of reaching 2,000 households.

Mr. Fatola clarified that only permanent residents are eligible for registration and emphasized the need for rigorous data integrity. Supporting these points, Mr. Odesola noted that the Federal Government’s NG-CARES program relies on OYO-SOCU’s register to identify beneficiaries, with over 58,000 residents currently engaged through this register. He added that states failing to expand their registers would risk exclusion from future N-CARES initiatives.

Dr. Glorious expressed his gratitude to Governor Makinde for authorizing the sensitization session, particularly at a time when newly elected chairmen are in need of such strategic insights. He pledged full support for the initiative and assured stakeholders of Ona Ara’s commitment to maintaining a high standard of data integrity.

In closing, Dr. Glorious thanked Mr. Olatunji and his team for their diligent efforts, affirming that Ona Ara Local Government had already initiated a comprehensive data collection exercise. He said the facility will remain shut until further notice, adding that a promise not to indulge in medical practice going forward will be extracted from the owner before any other thing is considered.

He advised others who still engage in such practices to desist, noting that the general public was at risk as they would have been drained of their hard-earned money and cases would have been complicated before getting to real hospitals.

Oyo 2027: "Our Father Hasn’t Joined the Gubernatorial Race Yet; It’s a Process," JDS Support Group Calls for Calm Amidst Withdrawal Reports

Oyo 2027: "Our Father Hasn’t Joined the Gubernatorial Race Yet; It’s a Process," JDS Support Group Calls for Calm Amidst Withdrawal Reports
The JDS Support Group wishes to address recent speculations surrounding the gubernatorial ambitions of the Jagunmolu Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, and to clarify that Chief Sanusi has not yet formally entered the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State. As a group that has been steadfastly advocating for Chief Sanusi’s leadership in Oyo’s political sphere, we urge supporters and the public to remain calm and allow the structured process to unfold.

Speaking on behalf of the JDS Support Group, Convener Mr. Rahmon Alawode stated, "Our movement has always been a grassroots appeal, involving numerous stakeholders and mobilization efforts to encourage Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi to consider the governorship. However, he has yet to formally join a political party or declare his candidacy. His stance remains unchanged: he will only consider a gubernatorial role if it serves the greater good of Oyo’s citizens."
,
Alawode further explained that should Chief Sanusi decide to enter the race, it would involve joining a political party and pursuing the nomination process. As of now, the movement is still in the preliminary stages, and Chief Sanusi’s acceptance of this appeal is not guaranteed. The group emphasized that Chief Sanusi has continually maintained his commitment to integrity and his insistence that he will not engage with political systems that contain “miscreants” undermining constructive leadership.

Mr. Alawode reiterated that “JDS is a man of truth, focus, and vision, dedicated to the service of humanity and the development of Oyo State.” Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the CEO of Ilaji Sports and Resorts and a respected figure in Ibadanland, has dedicated his life to meaningful contributions through initiatives in education, sports, and community development. These efforts, rather than the pursuit of power for its own sake, continue to be his primary focus.

In recent weeks, Chief Sanusi has expressed frustration with certain aspects of the Oyo State political landscape, labeling it as a “circus.” This sentiment is rooted in his commitment to maintaining integrity and staying true to his ideals of transparency and progress. As Mr. Alawode conveyed, Chief Sanusi’s decision on whether to pursue the governorship will ultimately hinge on whether it aligns with his vision of impactful governance that genuinely benefits the citizens.

In light of the reactions from supporters, Chief Sanusi has expressed deep appreciation for their trust and loyalty to his vision. He has urged his supporters to look toward identifying and supporting a competent leader who will earnestly prioritize the interests of Oyo State. “To all supporters of JDS, your dedication to the cause is appreciated. Please channel your support toward leaders committed to sustainable growth and transformation in Oyo,” he stated.

While the possibility of Chief Sanusi’s candidacy remains open, his legacy of impactful programs—such as the JDS Football League and ongoing youth empowerment efforts—continues to be a testament to his commitment to Oyo’s future. For now, the JDS Support Group calls upon all well-wishers to remain patient as Chief Sanusi contemplates the best path forward for Oyo State.
