ONA ARA LOCAL GOVERNMENT FIRST LADY, DEACONESS OLUWABUNMI KOLAPO JP, LEADS CAMPAIGN AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

The First Lady of Ona Ara Local Government, Deaconess Oluwabunmi Kolapo JP, has called on citizens to unite in the fight against violence against women and girls in society.

In a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, the campaign was described as a bold initiative to raise awareness and promote zero tolerance for gender-based violence.

Speaking at a sensitization rally held on Wednesday, December 11, Deaconess Kolapo emphasized the urgent need for collective action to address this societal menace. The rally commenced at Olorunsogo and proceeded through Ariyo, Amuloko, Odeyale, and Ajia, culminating at the Akanran Local Government Secretariat.

Themed “Unite Against Violence Against Women and Girls,” the program underscored the importance of collaboration among community members to eradicate gender-based violence.

Deaconess Kolapo noted that the sensitization program aligns with the vision of Her Excellency, Engr. Taminominini Olufunke Makinde, to create widespread awareness about sexual and gender-based violence. She stressed that everyone has a role to play in fighting this issue and ensuring the safety and dignity of women and girls.

The event drew notable attendees, including Mrs. Windapo, the Wife of the Vice Chairman and Political Head of INUKAN LCDA; Mrs. Abolade Yerima, Wife of the House Leader; Alhaja Akande, Director of Education and Social Service; representatives of the People's Democratic Party Women’s Wing; community youth leaders; and market leaders.

During her address, the First Lady highlighted the importance of education and enlightenment in reducing gender-based violence. She urged stakeholders to continue advocating for a safer society and pledged the local government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at protecting women and girls.

The sensitization program is part of ongoing efforts to foster a society where gender-based violence is not tolerated, and the rights of every individual, regardless of gender, are upheld.

The Oyo state team, comprising four female and one male weightlifters, won an impressive 12 medals at the championship. The female weightlifters stole the show, winning a total of 9 gold medals among them.

Lawal Rafiatu Folashade, competing in the 59kg category, won 3 gold medals, while Osijo Mary Taiwo, competing in the 87kg category, also won 3 gold medals. Liadi Taiwo, competing in the 81kg category, completed the hat-trick of gold medals for the Oyo state female weightlifters.

Fathia Owoyele, competing in the 49kg category, won 3 bronze medals, while Ojo Adekanye, the lone male weightlifter from Oyo state, finished 5th in the 55kg category.

In a significant move to empower residents and stimulate grassroots economic growth, the Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, has officially flagged off the distribution of Point-of-Sale (POS) machines and soft loans to over 1,000 beneficiaries within the Local Government area.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Bank of Agriculture and SmartPay Limited, is designed to enhance financial inclusion, promote small-scale entrepreneurship, and uplift the economic status of residents.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Chairman’s Press Secretary, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, and made available to journalists. The statement highlighted that the empowerment scheme involves three key components:

1. Free POS Machines from SmartPay Limited: Beneficiaries will receive free POS machines to facilitate business transactions.

2. Soft Loans from the Bank of Agriculture: Each beneficiary will be provided with an initial soft loan of ₦50,000 under the Women for Agriculture Empowerment Scheme.

3. Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Registration Support: To qualify, beneficiaries must have a registered business with the CAC. The Local Government has covered the registration costs for the first set of 50 beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Temitope GLORIOUS expressed his administration's commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and fostering financial independence among residents. He emphasized that the empowerment scheme is structured to maximize its impact, with plans to extend benefits to over 1,000 people before March 2025.

“The goal is to empower our people with the tools and resources to thrive in today’s economy. By partnering with the Bank of Agriculture and SmartPay Limited, we are ensuring that financial empowerment is accessible to all, especially women and small business owners,” Dr. GLORIOUS stated.

Representing the Bank of Agriculture, Mr. Olorundare Kolawole commended the Local Government for its foresight and pledged the bank’s continued support. He encouraged beneficiaries to act as ambassadors of the initiative by utilizing the resources responsibly and ensuring prompt repayment of loans to sustain the program.

Additionally, the Director of SmartPay Limited outlined the opportunities for beneficiaries to scale up their businesses. He explained that consistent and responsible participation in the scheme could qualify beneficiaries for loans of up to ₦1,000,000 by March 2025.

The Ona Ara Local Government initiative is a testament to the power of collaboration in driving sustainable development. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, pledging to make the most of the opportunity to enhance their livelihoods.

The event is set to take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the school premises in Oremeji, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a statement jointly signed by MULCHOSA’s National President, Mr. Badmus Olatunji, and the Vice President and Chairman of the Programme Committee, Mr. Daniel Ayantoye, ANIPR, the association revealed that Governor Makinde was selected for the award in recognition of his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to education and infrastructure development in Oyo State.

Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, the Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, has called for unity and strengthened collaboration among leaders and members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ona Ara Local Government. This appeal was made during the party's first general meeting, held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Elekuro High School, Owode, Ibadan.

In a press statement signed by the Chairman's Press Secretary, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Dr. GLORIOUS emphasized the need for collective efforts to ensure the continued success and development of the party at all levels.

During the well-attended meeting, the Chairman presented his administration’s scorecard, highlighting achievements in less than six months in office. He detailed progress made in critical areas, including:

Works, Housing & Infrastructure: Implementation of road projects, Construction of Boreholes, Reconstruction of Magistrate Court and Local Education Office, construction of bridges, dredging of rivers across the Local Government among others.

Agriculture & Social Development: Support for local farmers and social welfare initiatives.

Community Development: Execution of grassroots projects for community growth.

Dr. GLORIOUS also disclosed his consistent financial support for party welfare, having sent assistance to all wards on five occasions through the Local Government Party Chairman to the Ward Chairmen. He concluded by announcing the commencement of grading of roads in Ona Ara since Friday.

During the visit, Chief Sanusi expressed his admiration for Rasheed's resilience, skill, and outstanding performance in the ring, especially in light of the recent controversies surrounding his fight in Accra, Ghana. To further encourage Rasheed in his boxing career, Chief Sanusi presented him with a ₦1 million donation, emphasizing his unwavering support for Nigerian athletes who strive for excellence.

The visit follows the Universal Boxing Organisation's (UBO) declaration of Idowu Rasheed as the rightful winner of the Africa Light Heavyweight title. Ona Ara Local Government Executive Chairman, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, has called on investors to explore opportunities in the area as he commissioned the the second FINREL Group’s Supermarket Olorunsogo branch. The event, held on Friday, marked the company's second office in Ona Ara Local Government.

This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Chairman's Press Secretary, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Monday morning.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Temitope GLORIOUS expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for the reconstruction of the first phase of the Olorunsogo-Dagbolu road, which had suffered decades of neglect. The chairman noted that the newly reconstructed road played a key role in attracting the FINREL Group to establish its second branch in Ona Ara Local Government.

He also appreciated Dr. Jimi, the MD/CEO of FINREL Group, for choosing to invest in Ona Ara Local Government. “Your decision to establish another branch in Ona Ara is a boost to the local economy and a clear testament to the growing opportunities in this area. “The establishment of this branch is a testament to the development we are fostering along the Olorunsogo-Olunloyo axis,” Dr. GLORIOUS told the large crowd present at the ceremony. The search for the first away win of the season continued as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) lost 1-2 to Ikorodu City in a Matchday 12 encounter.

The Oluyole Warriors surrendered  a 1-0 lead to throw all points away in the  encounter played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

Backed by their vociferous supporters, including their Lagos based and traveling fans, the Ibadan soccer lords ,failed to hold onto their early lead, conceding two second half goals.

Anthony Okachi scored his first goal of the season, scoring the opener in the 15th minute, finishing off Samuel Ayanrinde's well laid pass.

The Stars dominated the first half and should have added to their tally but were undone by poor finishing.

The second half was a different ball game, as the hosts came out smoking, taking the game to the visitors.

They eventually levelled up in the 59rh minute through Shola Adelani who put the ball in after the Oluyole Warriors failed to clear their line during a goal mouth melee.

With two minutes left, RivioAyemweren jumped to head in a cross from the flank flank to score the winning goal, thus ensuring that the homers ran away with all points.

The results pushed Shooting Stars to the 12 position on the log with 15 points and the team will on Sunday, play host to Bayelsa United in a Matchday 13 fixture.
