In a remarkable display of strength and determination, five Oyo state weightlifters sponsored by Asiwaju Jubril Dotun Sanusi (Ilaji) made the state proud at the recently concluded Engr. Habu Gumel Weightlifting Open Championship in Abuja.
The Oyo state team, comprising four female and one male weightlifters, won an impressive 12 medals at the championship. The female weightlifters stole the show, winning a total of 9 gold medals among them.
Lawal Rafiatu Folashade, competing in the 59kg category, won 3 gold medals, while Osijo Mary Taiwo, competing in the 87kg category, also won 3 gold medals. Liadi Taiwo, competing in the 81kg category, completed the hat-trick of gold medals for the Oyo state female weightlifters.
Fathia Owoyele, competing in the 49kg category, won 3 bronze medals, while Ojo Adekanye, the lone male weightlifter from Oyo state, finished 5th in the 55kg category.
