Despite coordinated attacks, Dikko leaving no stone unturned, expanding inter-state services— Investigative journalists

Despite coordinated attacks, Dikko leaving no stone unturned, expanding inter-state services— Investigative journalists
A group of investigative journalists in Oyo state have bravely taken a boldly step to verify a number of false claims, including the absence of a legal framework governing the activities of Pacesetter Transport Services, in response to the ongoing coordinated attacks on Hon. Dikko Salami regarding the company's operations.

The group equally investigated a report that the Sole Administrator, Dr. Oladeji Salami Ibrahim, had recruited 106 additional staff without proper authorization.

In a statement jointly signed by renowned undercover journalists and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, the investigative journalists uncovered that several accusations charged against the chairman of the Pacesetter state were found to be politically sponsored.

The group observed that the company has been honest in its operations and has consistently made unprecedented development, increasing interstate services and continuously boosting the company's revenue under Dikko Salami's leadership.

With daily departures at 7:00 am, the investigative journalists also discovered that Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS), under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, has made great strides in expanding interstate services from Ibadan (TCTC Eleyele) to Abuja (Area 1, Gwagwalada Motor Park).

According to the statement, a thorough evaluation of the pace setter’s operation under Hon. Dikko Salami has been transparent, leaving no stone unturned, promoting inclusion, and for ease of commuters locating its loading points, reaching out to a unique demography of people who know virtually all commuters who are the bike men.

The statement continued: “Under the leadership of Hon. Dikko Salami, PTS is no doubt gaining attention from people as one of the most dependable transport systems in the state to transport goods or visit loved ones for just ₦28,500, which is definitely the kind of travel deal one can get elsewhere.

“The sole administrator has been able to enrol young people into the system, who have significantly improved the pacesetter transport company, in the same way as His Excellency Seyi Makinde believes in the potential of young people.

“To mention but a few, PTS was able to use a card system to digitise its operations, closing gaps and allowing for more transparent operations. Perhaps this is one of the reasons Hon. Dikko can make money on his own and pay staff salaries and arrears without relying on subventions.

““It will be recalled that on December 15, 2024, the Oyo State Government officially launched its inter-state services to Lagos, a historic event commissioned by Her Excellency, the First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde. This launch also marked the unveiling of PTS Logistics, covering Oyo, Lagos, and Abuja.

“The inter-state services to Lagos currently operate from TCTC Eleyele to Ojota Terminal and Ikeja Terminal, with daily departure times at 7:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 4:00 pm.

"His Excellency Seyi Makinde's unwavering investment in the transportation industry has allowed the PTS to accomplish this remarkable feat, allowing the company to transport over 50,000 passengers every day on intra-city, inter-city, and inter-state routes.

“Governor Seyi Makinde deserves equal praise for improving PTS to reduce transport expenses after the elimination of fuel subsidies.

However, despite this progress and the stunning turnaround in the pacesetter state, the undercover journalists wondered why the sole administrator of PTS would be the target of a coordinated attack instead of praise for his great efforts since taking office.

The group quipped, “Is this coordinated attacks perpetuated because Dikko is someone who is being firm and transparent?, Or could it be because he is not a man of a Free-For-All-Largesse?

It is our believe that the undercover journalists would be allowed into the House of Assembly complex on the day of investigation.

DR. TEMITOPE KOLAPO GLORIOUS: RAISING THE BAR IN EDUCATION AMIDST ECONOMIC HARDSHIP|| By Sulaiman Sheriff

DR. TEMITOPE KOLAPO GLORIOUS: RAISING THE BAR IN EDUCATION AMIDST ECONOMIC HARDSHIP
In today's Nigeria, only a handful of leaders and political officeholders reciprocate the benefits of the free education they once enjoyed by giving back to society. Education, which illuminates lives and shapes destinies, remains the key to unlocking opportunities, fostering confidence, and breeding hope—especially among the youth.

As George Washington aptly stated, "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom."

Embracing this philosophy, the Executive Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, has set an exceptional standard in educational development. Recognizing the financial constraints hindering many young Nigerians from pursuing higher education, he recently distributed 500 free JAMB forms to indigent youths in Ona-Ara. This initiative, carried out at Abdul Ocean Wealth CBT Centre, Iyana Ogbeere Tioya, Ibadan, is a beacon of hope for students striving to further their academic journey.

At a time when many leaders shy away from prioritizing education due to economic hardship, Dr. Kolapo has made it a cornerstone of his administration. His vision aligns with that of Governor Seyi Makinde, a leader who has consistently redefined education in Oyo State across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

True to his 6-Point New Era Agenda, where Educational Excellence is a priority, Dr. Kolapo has recorded significant achievements in office , including:

✅ Renovation of a block of three classrooms at Community Secondary School, Ahoparapo, through CSDA.
✅ Construction of a block of three classrooms with offices at Gangansi Community Primary School through CSDA.
✅ Construction of a block of three classrooms at Akintunde Primary School through CSDA.
✅ Construction of an office complex for the Local Inspector of Education (LIE).
✅ Renovation of a block of three classrooms with toilet facilities at Atolu Primary School (Ward 11) through CSDA.
✅ Donation of a power generator to Amuloko Community Grammar School.
✅ Distribution of megaphones to primary schools within the local government.
✅ Awarding of scholarships to students in higher institutions, schools of nursing, and health technology.
✅ Providing free transportation and entertainment for corps members from camp to Ona-Ara Local Government.
✅ Visiting charity homes, including the School for Handicapped Children, to mark his 100 days in office.
✅ On November 4th, 2024, distributing exercise books to public primary schools within Ona-Ara.

These initiatives reflect his unwavering commitment to education, despite the prevailing economic difficulties.

Beyond infrastructure and scholarships, Dr. Kolapo has taken bold steps to curb social vices such as thuggery, hooliganism, drug abuse, and indiscipline in secondary schools. After receiving distress calls from concerned teachers and parents, he personally visited several schools across Ona-Ara, engaging students in counseling sessions.

During these visits, he emphasized the dangers of crime and substance abuse, warning that such behaviors lead only to destruction, imprisonment, and even death. His advocacy for peace and discipline in schools reinforces his holistic approach to education—not just building classrooms, but building character and securing the future of young minds.

In December 2024, Dr. Kolapo Temitope received the prestigious "Award of Excellence in Performance" at the 9th Dinner and Awards Night of the Professional Event Planners and Vendors Association of Nigeria.

Most recently, he was honored with the Pacesetter Outstanding Personality Award.

This recognition solidifies his status as a visionary leader, dedicated to improving education and the welfare of Ona-Ara’s people, even in the face of economic challenges.

While Dr. Kolapo's commitment to education is commendable, governance is not a one-man effort. It requires the collective involvement of well-meaning individuals, community leaders, and stakeholders. Although many prominent figures have shown support, others must adopt the culture of investing in the future of Ona-Ara’s youth.

Education remains the greatest equalizer, and with leaders like Dr. Kolapo, Ona-Ara Local Government is undoubtedly on the path to academic excellence, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

Sulaimon Sheriff writes from Ona-Ara, Ibadan.

Nigerian Senator Neda Imasuen Disbarred in US Over Professional Misconduct

Nigerian Senator Neda Imasuen Disbarred in US Over Professional Misconduct
Nigerian Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District, has been embroiled in a scandal surrounding his disbarment in the United States over professional misconduct. According to reports, Imasuen was stripped of his bar license in New York in 2010 for defrauding a client and absconding with tens of millions of dollars in legal fees.

The client, Daphne Shyfield, had hired Imasuen to represent her in a legal matter, paying him tens of millions of dollars in legal fees. However, Imasuen allegedly neglected the case and failed to appear in court on Shyfield's behalf. Despite multiple attempts to contact him regarding the allegations, Imasuen reportedly ignored all petitions and disciplinary inquiries, prompting the New York authorities to revoke his legal license permanently.

The Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts found Imasuen guilty of professional misconduct, and the New York Supreme Court's ruling, dated May 11, 2010, officially prohibited him from practicing law in any form, including appearing before any court or legal authority in the US.

Despite his troubled past, Imasuen went on to become a senator in Nigeria, chairing the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions. His disbarment has raised serious questions about his role as head of the Senate Ethics Committee, particularly after his committee recently recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over alleged violations of Senate rules.

Imasuen's case reflects the broader issue of Nigerian politicians using fraud proceeds to secure political office and avoid accountability for crimes committed on foreign soil.

Recall, Senator Neda Imasuen is the chairman the Senate Committee on Ethics, he played a significant role in the recent suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Tinubunomics Takes Toll: 7 Million Businesses Shut Down in Nigeria

Tinubunomics Takes Toll: 7 Million Businesses Shut Down in Nigeria
Nigeria's economic crisis has led to the closure of approximately 7.2 million businesses between 2023 and 2024 under the President Bola Tinubu-led government, exacerbating concerns about the country's financial stability. This alarming rate of business closures comes amid rising inflation, high operational costs, and increasing economic uncertainty.

According to Dr. Segun Omisakin, Chief Economist and Director of Research at the Nigerian Economic Research Group (NESG), the country recorded an estimated N94 trillion loss due to multinational divestments and business closures. Omisakin highlighted that unfavorable economic conditions led to the shutdown of about 30% of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria.

Entrepreneurs and business owners in Nigeria have faced escalating fuel prices, transportation costs, and an overall inflation crisis, making it difficult for many enterprises to stay afloat. Stakeholders have called on the government to implement urgent policy interventions to stabilize the economy and support struggling businesses.

The NESG report further emphasized the need for improved economic policies, investment incentives, and infrastructure development to revive the private sector and restore investor confidence. Nigeria's business landscape remains fragile, and without strategic reforms, the trend of business closures and capital flight may persist, further deepening the country's economic challenges.

In a related development, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported that tax revenue from local companies in Nigeria declined by 36.4 percent within three months. The NBS' latest Company Income Tax report shows that tax revenue reduced to N651.6 billion in the third quarter of 2023 from N1.02 trillion in the previous quarter.

The World Bank's latest Nigeria Development Update report revealed that rising inflation and sluggish growth in Africa's biggest economy increased the number of poor people to 104 million in 2023 from 89.8 million at the start of the year. Despite the reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration, foreign investments into Nigeria dropped to $654.7 million, the lowest level since the statistics bureau started collating the data in 2013.
