INTEGRITY & COMPLIANCE WORKSHOP: AMB. Oyedeji Olusegun Abayomi received certificate of attendance

 INTEGRITY & COMPLIANCE WORKSHOP

CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE

TO OYEDEJI OLUSEGUN ABAYOMI IBADAN SOUTH WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA FOR PARTICIPATED IN A 2-DAY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP FOR SOUTH WEST SUPERVISOR FORUM

TITLED: " Understanding Modern Management Trend in the Local Government Service Delivery"

Anchored INTEGRITY & COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT Consultant

My experience and knowledge about local government creates an

appropriate and conducive

environment for the people at the local

level through efficient and effective

service delivery. The value of local

government in a country is inestimable

because it is an indispensable arm of

government. As a result, the link between

the qualities of service that citizens enjoy

is very significant. The article examines

local government and effective service

delivery with special reference to Nigerian

local governments. It notes that Local

government is the closest government

to the people at the grassroots level,

so it is expected to play significant

roles in providing the social services for the people in order to improve

their standard of living. But in Nigeria,

the impact of local government is so far

limited, especially with regard to

improving service delivery. The article

observes that despite the strategic

importance of local government to

the development process through

effective service delivery, there has

not been much development in most

local governments in Nigeria. The

article recommends that

local

governments in Nigeria need adequate

autonomy that can facilitate their

operations and development of the

localities through effective service

delivery.

Newsletter: Tough Times, Tough Decisions

In the monthly newsletter by Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE The Executive Governor of Oyo has clarified that in the tough time we need a tough decision

The letter read as:

We are counting down to the end of the year, and I am happy that we are ending this year on a strong investment note.

Under Omituntun 1.0, I talked about our plan to develop the Ikere Gorge Dam, but it did not work out. Permit me to report that yesterday, I spoke with investors who have indicated interest in completing the power plant at Ikere. All they have asked is that we work on the access road that leads to the dam, and we will make it happen in the shortest possible time.

We have investors interested in Ikere Gorge Dam, but this is not always the case with all the opportunities we put out in the State asking for

Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). So, we sometimes have to make the tough decision regarding how best to use the available resources to meet the needs of our people, as we did in the case of Trans- Amusement Park. Let me again reassure you that we will go the extra mile to get a replacement for that legacy, which we had to let go.

And let me use this opportunity to say that in the course of our governance activities, we will make tough decisions that may not always sit well with everyone. But we will do our best to keep listening to our people, taking into cognisance the feedback they provide, and using these to make our decisions better.

As I have always maintained, we can only get out of these difficult economic times by thinking outside the box and turning our comparative advantage into competitive advantage. I am glad we are beginning to understand and accept that there is nothing wrong with taking loans to fund developmental projects. But beyond developing infrastructure, we should be able to attract private sector investment into our State. The private sector will only come when offered a conducive environment.

And to show that we are doing something right, we continue to attract businesses into the State. Just about a week ago, we received some German investors looking to explore agriculture opportunities available in the State, and they pledged five industries in the next year. I also received some investors from Spain. I must say that if we continue in this trajectory, our State will continue to be the better for it.

Before I go, let me congratulate, once again, the new Aseyin of Iseyin, whom I had the honour of presenting with the Staff of Office. I pray that the reign of His Royal Majesty, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, Ajirotutu I, brings peace to the people of Iseyin and Oke-Ogun land.

Banks ration cash as Naira scarcity persists

Banks ration cash as Naira scarcity persists

Bank customers’ agony over the prevailing cash scarcity increased, yesterday, as more banks resorted to rationing cash withdrawals while Point of Sale Operators, PoS, operators, hiked transaction fees by 100 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN in a move aimed at ameliorating the situation, suspended charges for cash withdrawals above the regulatory limits of N500,000 for individuals and N3 million for corporate account holders. The CBN said that the suspension of the charges would last till April 30th next year.

Suspension of charges for large cash withdrawals

Announcing the suspension in a circular to banks entitled, ‘Re-Processing Fees on Cash Deposit’, the acting Director, Banking Supervision, CBN, Dr. Adetona Adedeji, said: “Please recall the processing charges imposed on cash deposits above N500,000 for individuals and N3,000,000 for corporates as contained in the “Guide to Charges by Banks, Other Financial Institutions and NonBank Financial institutions’ issued on December 20, 2019, under reference FPR/DIR/GEN/CIR/07/042.

“The CBN hereby suspends the charging of processing fees of two percent and three percent previously charged on all cash deposits above these thresholds with immediate effect. This suspension shall remain in effect until April 30, 2024.

“Consequently, all financial institutions regulated by the CBN should accept all cash deposits from the public without any charges going forward.”

Banks ration cash withdrawal

Vanguard’s visits to bank branches in Lagos and Abuja showed more customers experienced difficulty accessing cash as the ATMs in most of the bank branches did not dispense cash while the banks imposed limits on cash withdrawal in a bid to ration the available cash.

Findings indicated that there has been a short supply of cash to the banks from the apex bank, prompting the banks to reduce the amount disbursed both via the Automated Teller machines, ATMs, and Over-the-Counter.

Like the beginning of the year, when Nigerians faced biting cash scarcity, banks now prioritise customers holding accounts with them, while rationing available cash to make it get to as many customers as possible.

While some still maintain the N100,000 daily withdrawal limit in tranches of N20,000 through ATMs, others have since reduced the amount dispensed through the ATMs.

Also, POS agents who spoke to Vanguard confirmed the unavailability of cash at the banks, saying that they hardly get the amount they requested from the banks in the last one month.

3SC Recent Results, Temporary Setback - Ogunbote

3SC Recent Results, Temporary Setback - Ogunbote

Technical Adviser of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Gbenga Ogunbote, has described the recent poor run of form of his team as a temporary setback.

The Oluyole Warriors were held 1-1 at home by Katsina United on Sunday, a result that extended the team's winless run to four games.

In his comments, the Oracle, as the coach is fondly called, admitted that the recent results were not the best for the team but believe the tide will soon change.

"It is not too good for us, but I think it is a temporary set back, it is not a disaster. We need to pick our pieces and get it right to get back to winning ways if actually we want to get meaningful results".

The sweat merchant also described the failure of his strikers to get it right in the Matchday 13 encounter, describing it as disappointing.

The former Sunshine Stars coach, who frowned at the negative tactics of Katsina United, assured his side will strive to get something good in the next game away to Abia Warriors.

"We still have about five days to prepare for the game, at this juncture, all hands must be on deck, we must make sure we do our best to get a positive result there", stated the 3SC chief tactician.
