October 1: President Tinubu’s full speech on Independence Day

ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU, GCFR, PRESIDENT AND COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 63RD INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY OF NIGERIA ON SUNDAY, 1ST OCTOBER, 2023

It is my unique honour to address you on this day, the 63rd anniversary of our nation’s independence, both as the President of our dear country and, simply, as a fellow Nigerian.

On this solemn yet hopeful day, let us commend our founding fathers and mothers. Without them, there would be no modern Nigeria. From the fading embers of colonialism, their activism, dedication and leadership gave life to the belief in Nigeria as a sovereign and independent nation.

Let us, at this very moment, affirm that as Nigerians, we are all endowed with the sacred rights and individual gifts that God has bestowed on us as a nation and as human beings. No one is greater or lesser than the other. The triumphs that Nigeria has achieved shall define us. The travails we have endured shall strengthen us. And no other nation or power on this earth shall keep us from our rightful place and destiny. This nation belongs to you, dear people. Love and cherish it as your very own.

Nigeria is remarkable in its formation and essential character. We are a broad and dynamic blend of ethnic groups, religions, traditions and cultures. Yet, our bonds are intangible yet strong, invisible yet universal. We are joined by a common thirst for peace and progress, by the common dream of prosperity and harmony and by the unifying ideals of tolerance and justice.

Forging a nation based on the fair application of these noble principles to a diverse population has been a task of significant blessing but also serial challenge. Some people have said an independent Nigeria should never have come into existence. Some have said that our country would be torn apart. They are forever mistaken. Here, our nation stands and here we shall remain.

This year, we passed a significant milestone in our journey to a better Nigeria. By democratically electing a 7th consecutive civilian government, Nigeria has proven that commitment to democracy and the rule of law remains our guiding light.

At my inauguration, I made important promises about how I would govern this great nation. Among those promises, were pledges to reshape and modernize our economy and to secure the lives, liberty and property of the people.

I said that bold reforms were necessary to place our nation on the path of prosperity and growth. On that occasion, I announced the end of the fuel subsidy.

I am attuned to the hardships that have come. I have a heart that feels and eyes that see. I wish to explain to you why we must endure this trying moment. Those who sought to perpetuate the fuel subsidy and broken foreign exchange policies are people who would build their family mansion in the middle of a swamp. I am different. I am not a man to erect our national home on a foundation of mud. To endure, our home must be constructed on safe and pleasant ground.

Reform may be painful, but it is what greatness and the future require. We now carry the costs of reaching a future Nigeria where the abundance and fruits of the nation are fairly shared among all, not hoarded by a select and greedy few. A Nigeria where hunger, poverty and hardship are pushed into the shadows of an ever fading past.

There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future.

My government is doing all that it can to ease the load. I will now outline the path we are taking to relieve the stress on our families and households.

We have embarked on several public sector reforms to stabilize the economy, direct fiscal and monetary policy to fight inflation, encourage production, ensure the security of lives and property and lend more support to the poor and the vulnerable.

Based on our talks with labour, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation. For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month.

To ensure better grassroots development, we set up an Infrastructure Support Fund for states to invest in critical areas. States have already received funds to provide relief packages against the impact of rising food and other prices.

Making the economy more robust by lowering transport costs will be key. In this regard, we have opened a new chapter in public transportation through the deployment of cheaper, safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation. These buses will operate at a fraction of current fuel prices, positively affecting transport fares.

New CNG conversions kits will start coming in very soon as all hands are on deck to fast track the usually lengthy procurement process. We are also setting up training facilities and workshops across the nation to train and provide new opportunities for transport operators and entrepreneurs. This is a groundbreaking moment where, as a nation, we embrace more efficient means to power our economy. In making this change, we also make history.

I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway. A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences. Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.

Wise tax policy is essential to economic fairness and development. I have inaugurated a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve the efficiency of tax administration in the country and address fiscal policies that are unfair or hinder the business environment and slow our growth.

To boost employment and urban incomes, we are providing investment funding for enterprises with great potential. Similarly, we are increasing investment in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Commencing this month, the social safety net is being extended through the expansion of cash transfer programs to an additional 15 million vulnerable households.

My administration shall always accord the highest priority to the safety of the people. Inter-Service collaboration and intelligence sharing have been enhanced. Our Service Chiefs have been tasked with the vital responsibility of rebuilding the capacities of our security services.

Here, I salute and commend our gallant security forces for keeping us safe and securing our territorial integrity. Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them today and their families. We shall equip our forces with the ways and means needed to perform their urgent task on behalf of the people.

We shall continue to make key appointments in line with the provisions of the Constitution and with fairness toward all. Women, Youth and the physically challenged shall continue to be given due regard in these appointments.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate the National Assembly for its role in the quick take-off of this administration through the performance of its constitutional duties of confirmation and oversight.

I similarly congratulate the judiciary as a pillar of democracy and fairness.

I also thank members of our dynamic civil society organizations and labour unions for their dedication to Nigerian democracy. We may not always agree but I value your advice and recommendations. You are my brothers and sisters and you have my due respect.

Fellow compatriots, the journey ahead will not be navigated by fear or hatred. We can only achieve our better Nigeria through courage, compassion and commitment as one indivisible unit.

I promise that I shall remain committed and serve faithfully. I also invite all to join this enterprise to remake our beloved nation into its better self. We can do it. We must do it. We shall do it.!!!

I wish you all a happy 63rd Independence Anniversary.

Thank you for listening.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Immediate past Chairman of Oyo State Sports Council and former Ibadan North East Local Government Chairman Honourable Gbenga Adewusi fondly called 'Arole' has again demonstrated his kind gestures by rewarding Team Oyo athletes that has gold medals with cash gift at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games 'Asaba 2023'.

OyoSportsNews in a brief telephone chat with 'Arole', explained that the gesture is a result of his passion and love to motivate athletes, promote and encourage sports development in Oyo state. He added that the donation is to acknowledge the exploits of Team Oyo and most especially gold medalits and also stimulate them to bring home more medals.
In Chess (classical), Team Oyo grabbed two gold medals while Ibrahim Ajibade had a best ride over his mates to clinch gold in 10Kilometer Individual Time Trial (ITT). Team Oyo also won gold in golf.
Speaking on the donation, Arole said: “I'm extremely happy with the performances of the athletes in Asaba, I was with thier seniors in November 2022 at Asaba during the National Sports Festival and for a young athlete below 15year old to have reach the final stage and won a gold medal; I think we need to motivate, encourage and pass strong message to other parents at home that they should support us in sports development. We can only catch them young."

"It being part of me in any national and state competitions to motivate athletes. As a retired handball player and lover of football, I observed many talents are hidden at the grassroots level and it's very important to discover, encourage, train and motivate them until they get to the top."

Why DIKKO and Not Anyone Else? Makinde's Sought-After Choice|| By IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

Why DIKKO and Not Anyone Else? Makinde's Sought-After Choice|| By IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

Those who compete are not complete, for those who serve become servant leaders."

On July 24, 2023, when the news of Hon. Dr. Ibraheem Oladeji Salami Dikko's appointment as the immediate Director General for Youth Mobilization at the 2023 general elections for Gov. Seyi Makinde's second-term bid broke to the public, it seemed like a daydream.

Without delay, he, known for his diligence, swung into action by resuming on July 25, 2023, to familiarize himself with the system and understand the challenges it presented.

He was empowered to serve as the Chairman/Sole Administrator of PTS Oyo State, marking the first time this position had been held alongside chairmanship since the company's inception.

Many friends, colleagues, and well-wishers from various backgrounds were astonished and confused by this appointment. They hadn't expected Dikko to be chosen for this role, assuming he would serve as the HC for Youth and Sports of Oyo State.

In retrospect, it became clear to everyone that Hon. Ibraheem was now the Chairman and Sole Administrator of PaceSetter Transport Services in Oyo State. His mandate was clear: to institute reforms, rejuvenate the system, and remove inefficiencies, ensuring discipline and responsiveness.

PTS marked his first public service assignment despite having been involved in the political system for some time without being elected or appointed. He possessed the leadership qualities that captured the Governor's attention: youth, intelligence, vibrancy, and a refined political acumen.

As part of his team during the 2023 campaign, I served under him as the Chairman/Head of Youth Media GSM campaign. Despite the challenges, he remained undeterred and focused on the path to victory for GSM Omituntun 2.0 in Canan Land.

Today, he has spent two months and a day in office and has achieved remarkable results, making one wonder, "Why DIKKO Salami and not anyone else?" Some may have doubted his capabilities, but he has performed excellently despite limited resources and inexperience.

From what I know, the people of Oyo State have only seen the beginning of his impact, with more to come. Upon assuming office, he promised a good working relationship, cooperation, and support for economic recovery and growth.

PTS has been the headquarters of the SAfER Program, initiated by His Excellency Engr. Dsc GSSRS KJW Abiodun Oluseyi Saheed MAKINDE FNSE, with transportation being a key component. Under his leadership, PTS now offers intercity and intracity Omituntun mass transit services across the state, with 56 buses and more in the pipeline.

The digitalization of PTS operations for economic growth and efficiency, as well as ensuring compliance across all units, has been a significant achievement.

Reducing fees for the public, including students, market traders, civil servants, and the elderly, and the ongoing Omituntun free card program until October 31, 2023, have provided relief to many.

It's clear that Hon. Ibraheem Salami Dikko's actions are not his alone, but guided by a higher purpose. For me, Governor Seyi Makinde is the real driving force, and Hon. Ibraheem is his capable representative.

Yours in service leadership,

“With this, our people in the state cannot be duped and if they have land to be developed into a housing estate they will apply to the state government and they will be profiled properly. This will give our people in the diaspora a hope to come home and invest in the state”, he said.

In his remarks, one of the Real Estate Developers, and representative of Ark View Investment Limited, Peter Olutoyese applauded the laudable initiative.

He said, the advantage of free entry has been abused and the industry has been polluted, adding that the regulation will limit the pollution and it will also give credible developers more chance to thrive.

OMITUNTUN 2.0 APPOINTMENT: TECH WILL TURN EDUCATION SECTOR AROUND UNDER GSM ADMINISTRATION SAYS IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

OMITUNTUN 2.0 APPOINTMENT: TECH WILL TURN EDUCATION SECTOR AROUND UNDER GSM ADMINISTRATION SAYS IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

Since we all know that qualitative education is the key to unlock the future in other to compete with the World globally. Yesterday dated 20th of September, 2023, I took a short while to pay a courtesy visit to the newly minted Hon. Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abdulwaheed Soliu as approved and Sworn in by His Excellency Sir, Engr Dsc GSSRS KJW Abiodun Seyi Makinde FNSE.

I had once met with him in kishi, Kajola Local Government during my visit to our Fesologba Deputy Governor of our dear state(Oyo) in celebration of his nomination and approval to be Gov. Makinde's running mate at the 2023 General Elections.

He did gave me a warm distinguished reception, highly accommodating, friendly and humble to pieces. I remembered vividly that Hon. Hussain Yusuf Ijabah was the one who took me inside to share greetings with DG. Barr. Adebayo Abdulraheem Lawal. I intentionally took my time watch him organizing activities, fixing disputes and ensuring all hands were on deck before the DG.

From my instincts and church mind, he seems to be a loyal dedicated and committed seasoned political image for the good people of Kishi Kajola Local Government. Although, I thought he was the LCDA political head Kajola but later new he wasn't holding any.

Furthermore, untill his appointment by Mr Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde as the new HC for Education, Science and Technology. I was oncloud nine hearing the news and was highly believing that he will do fantastically well beyond expectations by taking the education sector to a sustainable development level using experience, skills, capacity and leadership maturity in turning things around better than he met it.

I have no doubt about his appointment that he will make changes that will boost the system and upgrade from what it used to be to what it ought to be using the new dimension model through Technological Innovations. Upon my interactions with him yesterday, my sincere congratulations to him once again was mentioned and a successful leadership in the administration of Gov. Makinde.

We spoke on the state of our schools, the need to improve on the infrastructures and other amenities. Also, I assured him of my support in any capacity, effective information on urgent matter arising, issues based in the schools about our teachers and many more.

sincerely

In his words: I want to thank you for your visit and congratulatory message. God bless you. I want to assure you of my sincere support too and you are always welcome here anytime. Let me assure you that, I detest cheating, disorderliness but believes in Transparency, Equity, Fairness and Justice. Oyo Govt SAfER Second Phase Takes Off Successfully

The Oyo State Government began the second phase of the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) intervention in the state, with the distribution of foodstuff across all local government areas, provision of easy-to-access Loans for small Enterpreneurs, 46 buses for commuters at highly subsidised rate and Inputs for farmers among other initiatives.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the exercise, is the continuation of the Sustainable Actions for Economic Recovery plan of the State Government.

The State Government had warned the coordinators to ensure that the foodstuff get to the less privileged and vulnerable people in the state.

According to him, the exercise is in fulfilment of Governor Seyi Makinde's promise to soften the hardship on the citizens as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.

The commissioner quoted the Governor as having directed interest groups, the 33 council chairmen, and their councillors to demonstrate integrity in the distribution of the foodstuff and ensure that it cuts across political tendencies.

Government said the exercise is going on smoothly all over the state, as targetted beneficiaries were seen carrying bags of the different food items in orderly manner.

Oyelade seized the opportunity to reiterate that the state had begun the process of distribution of free SMEs loan forms simultaneously from seven Micro finance banks in the state.

Oyelade said as it was the last time, the second phase saw the distribution of another 25% of the 200,000 promised by the governor, which means that at the conclusion of the second phase in a few days, 100,000 bags of rice, beans and other food items would have been distributed.

He said free forms can henceforth be collected from the Microfiance offices in the following locations:

1. Full range Microfinance Bank Iwo Road, Ibadan.

2. Isale Oyo Microfinance Bank, Oyo town.

3. Excel Microfinance Bank, Eruwa.

4. NUT Oke Bola Microfinance Bank, Oke Ado, Ibadan.

5. Caretakers MicroFinance Bank, Caretaker, Ogbomoso.

6. Kadupe Microfinance Bank, Shaki.

7. Ebedi Microfinance Bank, Iseyin.

The loan exercise which is for low and medium scale entrepreneurs will cost the Oyo State Government the sum of N500m.

Oyelade reiterated that on the whole, Oyo State Government has earmarked 20,000 of the 200, 000 SAfER food items for personnel of security apparatus, media houses and a few other considered groups.

According to the Commissioner, what oyo state does differently is that other critical areas that will reduce hardship on the people are being addressed side by side the food distribution.

For instance small scale enterprises, under the supervision of the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Professor Musibau Babatunde, is empowering traders, artisans and other small business owners with N500m, as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal on the residents of the State.

The forms are free and can be collected in the Micro finance banks. (Name the banks)

On food security, the Oyo State government will commence the first phase of food security through the distribution of grains/feed to poultry farmers, this week.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who heads the sub-committee, this will cater for 1000 poultry farmers for a start.

A total of N1bn has been earmarked for farmers and beneficiaries of the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) and the loans can be easily accessed.

Oyelade said all these are in fulfilment of Governor Seyi Makinde's promise, that the Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) intervention will go beyond mere distribution of food to the gpopulace.

Recall that, the transport sub-committee, headed by Mr. Gafar Bello has provided 46 buses across the state, at subsidised cost to cushion the effect of the oil subsidy which has made life difficult for the populace while over 40,000 pensioners will not only enjoy free healthcare facilities under OYSH6IA but will also have the money they have paid earlier for medicare returned to them as a result of the new SAfER policy
