OYO PRESENTS 167 ATHLETES FOR 28 SPORTS AT NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES (NYC)
Oyo State Government has concluded all arrangements for the participation of One hundred and sixty seven (167) numbers of athletes at the 7th National Youth Games scheduled to hold at Asaba, in Delta state as from 20th to 30th of September, 2023.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Miss Wasilat Adegoke dropped this hint in today Ibadan.
The Commissioner disclosed further that the ten days tournament is open to every Nigerian youth age 15 years and below, adding that the game is part of the national strategic plan to meaningfully engage our youths, create career path for them in sports, take them away from social vices and ultimately create a robust pool of young talents that can be nurtured for outstanding performances at international competitions.
Honourable Wasilat Adegoke remarked that Oyo State Team will participate in twenty sports, namely: Athletics, Traditional Sports, Badminton, Basketball, Beach volleyball, Boxing, Canoeing, Chess, Cricket, Cycling, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Karate, Scrabble, Squash, Swimming, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
The Commissioner said further that One hundred and sixty seven (167) athletes, thirteen (13) coaches, thirteen (13) team officials and nine (9) State delegates from Oyo state will actively participate at the tournament
Earlier, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development organized a 3 days Zonal Elimination Competition for ball games which involved all the South Western State, of Nigeria on Wednesday 16th to Friday 18th August, 2023 at the Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resorts, Akanran Ibadan.
At the Zonal Elimination Competition, Oyo State Team came First in Four Sports (Both male and Female) namely: Cricket, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and Basketball. The Youth and Sports Commissioner Honourable Wasilat Adegoke is billed to address the athletes, coaches and officials before their final departure on Wednesday.
