PDP GOVS KNOCK WIKE, INSIST FUBARA IS RIVERS PARTY LEADER

PDP GOVS KNOCK WIKE, INSIST FUBARA IS RIVERS PARTY LEADER
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, lambasted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his threat to destabilise their states for supporting the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

The governors’ response was contained in a statement released by the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Emmanuel Agbo.

As the political battle between Wike and his predecessor and estranged political godson, Fubara, rages, the PDP governors at their recent meeting declared support for Fubara, insisting that he should take control of the Rivers PDP.

Displeased by the governors’ intervention, Wike, speaking last weekend in Port Harcourt, warned the governors to stay out of the Rivers issues, warning that he could orchestrate crisis in their states if they would not desist.

However, replying him on Tuesday in the statement by Agbo, the PDP governors’ described Wike’s threat as empty.

The attention of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum,  under the chairmanship of H.E. Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohamed (CON) and Governor of Bauchi State and all the member-governors has been drawn to a widely circulating news story in which the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, H.E. Barrister Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Rivers State, made scathing and threatening comments regarding member-governors of the forum and notes the significant concerns that has been raised in the public space regarding the unity and peaceful coexistence within our party.

The governors said they were “irrevocably committed” to working with the party’s National Working Committee “in ensuring that Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is conferred with all the privileges he is entitled to as a governor elected on the platform of our party, both at the state and national levels.”

EX-LAWMAKER DUMPS APC IN EDO

EX-LAWMAKER DUMPS APC IN EDO
Barely 19 days before the September 21 governorship election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and a lawmaker who represented Akoko-Edo II in the state House of Assembly from 2015 to 2023, Emmanuel Agbaje, has dumped the party.

In a letter to his Ward 10 chairman in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area dated September 2, 2024, Agbaje complained of alienation and alleged sidelining in the scheme of things in the party and his ward.

Agbaje was the only APC lawmaker in the state House of Assembly besides the 14 that were not inaugurated in 2019.

He did not defect with Governor Godwin Obaseki from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2020 governorship election and it was gathered that from that time till his tenure ended, he was denied all entitlements as a lawmaker except his monthly salary.

It was gathered that he was not also consulted when the APC governorship campaign council was being constituted as members who were then in the PDP in his ward were made members of the council without consulting him.

WE FEEL BETRAYED - JOE AJAERO BERATES FGN ON INCREMENTS OF PETROL PRICE

WE FEEL BETRAYED - JOE AJAERO BERATES FGN ON INCREMENTS OF PETROL PRICE
We are filled with a deep sense of betrayal as the federal government clandestinely increases the pump price of pms. One of the reasons for accepting N70,000 as national minimum wage was the understanding that the pump price of pms would not be increased even as we knew that N70,000 was not sufficient.

We recall vividly when Mr President gave us the devil’s alternatives to choose from: either N250,000 as minimum wage (subject to the rise of the pump price between N1,500 and N2,000) and N70,000 (at old pms rates), we opted for the latter because we could not bring ourselves to accept further punishment on Nigerians.
But here we are, barely one month after and with government yet to commence payment of the new national minimum wage, confronted by a reality we cannot explain.

It is both traumatic and nightmarish.

Yet, when we told government that it’s approach to resolving the fuel subsidy contradictions was patently faulty and would not last, it’s front row cheer leaders sneered at us, saying we did not understand basic economics .

But if truth be told, this act of betrayal is consistent with the character of this government. We recall the assurances we were given by the leadership of the National Assembly on the 250% tariff hike, that it had been dealt with and there was no need to openly engage the Minister of Power who was at that meeting.

Instead of the promised reversal, the rate has since been jerked up further putting more Nigerians and businesses in jeopardy.

The combined effects of government’s ferocious right -wing market policies brought Nigerians and Nigeria to their all-time low and led to the End-Hunger/End Bad Governance protests.

Rather than make amends, government arrested and hounded into detention some of those who took part and some of those who had nothing to do with these protests, charging them with criminal conspiracy, subversion, treasonable felony, terrorism financing and cyber crime with an intent to overthrow the government of President Tinubu.

The police and other security agencies have since been on rampage terrorising the citizenry in pursuance of government’s agenda of muzzling lawful dissent.

In brazen pursuit, they have defamed and libelled not a few individuals.

They have gone as far as appropriating the statutory roles of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in resolving trade dispute matters and issues considered outside the jurisdiction of the security agencies.

That the government is on rampage in the face of stifling conditions of living is an understatement but we promise Nigerians that we at the Nigeria Labour Congress will not be cowed into submission. Together with civil society, we brought about this democracy when some of the actors in power today were conspiring with the military on how to perpetuate their hold on political power.

When the State and the security forces picked on us in a hybrid war, we had our suspicions. We knew they were up to something sinister and needed to distract/divert our attention or possibly frighten or weaken us before they came out with it so that we would not have a robust response.

Now that they chickens have come to roost, we were right in our suspicions. However, we want to let Nigerians know that the clandestine/surreptitious increase in the pump price of pms is the first among the equally sinister policies government has up its sleeve.

On our part, we stand resolute with the people and will neither be distracted nor intimidated by the government or its security agencies.

We insist that government cannot criminalise protests or basic rights in the domain of the citizenry.

Accordingly, we demand the immediate:
1). Reversal of the latest increase in the pump of pms across the country;

2). Release of all those incarcerated or being prosecuted on the assumption of having participated in the recent protests;

3). Halt the indiscriminate arrest and detention of citizens on trumped up charges;

4). Reversal of the 250% tariff hike in electricity;

5). Stop to the hijack of the duties of the Ministry of Labour and Employment;

6). End to policies that engender hunger and insecurity;

7). Halt to government’s culture of terror, fear and lying.

We are guided by our belief in our country and the need to secure and sustain its sovereignty, integrity and welfare of the people.

In the coming days, the appropriate organs of the Congress will be meeting to take appropriate decisions which will be made public.

Comrade Joe Ajaero
President

THE MAKINDE OYOBPA: Uniqueness And Brilliance of Akin-Funmilayo, A Call for Compliance from Property Owners By IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

THE MAKINDE OYOBPA: Uniqueness And Brilliance of Akin-Funmilayo, A Call for Compliance from Property Owners By IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE

The Oyo State Government is calling on property owners to take advantage of the ongoing 60-day building permit amnesty program. This regularization initiative, which began under the leadership of Mr Akin-Funmilayo through the approval of a magnanimous Administrator, Talk and Do Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, aims to bring structures built without proper check , professional advice and scrutiny before approval into compliance with state permits.

At a recent meeting on the amnesty program, key officials, includes Honorable Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Mr. Peter Eledan, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Mrs. Adebiyi, Directors from ministry, professionals and other stakeholders were present.

Hon. Commissioner, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo highlighted the urgent need for property owners to comply with building regulations and urged them to regularize their structures before the amnesty period ends.

He clarified that while the amnesty program allows property owners to legalize their buildings, it excludes properties illegally occupying road areas, acquisition lands, riverside, circular roads, pipeline setbacks, high tension cables areas or those involved in court or financial crime matters. These zones are crucial for urban planning, often serving as green spaces, transportation routes, and infrastructure corridors, and thus are not eligible for amnesty.

Property owners without the necessary building permits are strongly advised to act immediately. Regularizing their structures during this 60-day amnesty period will help them avoid penalties, stif sanction and contribute to the safety and orderliness of their communities. To encourage compliance, ease the convenience on the cost, the government is offering a 20% discount on building permit fees during this period, thereby making it easier for all and sundry to take the bull by the horn.

“This amnesty period lasts for sixty (60) days, and it is advisable that all property owners—residential, commercial, industrial, educational, health facilities, etc.—within the state who have no building permit, or have engaged in unauthorized development, or are planning to commence development, even completed and now living in their buildings with no permits should take this opportunity,” Commissioner Akin-Funmilayo stated.

The Commissioner mentioned that the application process for the amnesty period has begun online as well to our offices across the 33 local government areas of the state.

Having His Excellency Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE as the Principal, Effulgent Leader, Pragmatic, Action Educationist Inspirational Revolutionary Missionary Master at the helm of governance and affairs of the sustainable development administration with the support and service of Mr Akin-Funmilayo Williams the Honorable Commissioner for Lands Housing Survey and Urban Development, it's a new dawn for the good people of Oyo State Nigeria to take action now and secure the necessary process to building permits and contribute to creating a more organized and sustainable urban environment in Oyo State, ensuring a better quality of life for everyone.

He said: “Ibadan for generation has always been attractive since it was founded and it’s a place where commerce thrive and a state of secret billionaires.

“President Tinubu is asking us to use our gas to thrive transportation, industries, produce more foods and fertilizers as well as other things that will make life easier for the people.

“We are beginning to do the right thing but this requires us to taste some pains. We can’t go back to subsidize our own impoverishment. As a team, we are determined to show our commitment.

“We are here to present 20 buses as sustainable partnership with Pacesetter Transport Service (PTS) to generate income because they are asset. So, we need more Dikkos so that we can run more sustainable mass transit. We can effectively ensure that the future of Oyo state is more brighter as well as Nigeria.”

In his goodwill message, the Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Environment, Engr. Ademola Aderinto, said CNG is far cheaper form of energy noting that the initiative will give a longer and healthier life as it will also prevent emission of carbon monoxide always caused by combustion engines.

“The way to go for Nigeria is CNG, natural gas. And it delight that Oyo state is rolling this out first. We want to thank President Tinubu and also His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, for embracing changes.

In attendance included chairman OYSROMA, Hon. Busoye Ogunlade other government functionaries and host of others.
