Chief Monsur Abiola Olatunji(Olabiwonniu Arulogun), Bada Balogun of Ibadanland has expressed the major reason behind the renovation and rehabilitation of his forefathers' building to a modern one.

He stressed that the ancient house is their heritage which they must take good care of, apart from this,the renovation was done to facelift the building in other to convey the family meetings and other meetings in the compound and to entertain any dignitaries who may come for visitation, and to nurture the legacy of their forefathers, he also urged all the compound heads in Ibadanland to emulate this process in other to have a conducive environment in their compounds.

He then appreciated all the sons and daughters of Arulogun Compound for their massive supports for him.

 He said he believes in them and promised to always be a good ambassador of Arulogun dynasty

UN APPROVES FIRST TREATY TARGETING CYBERCRIME
UN member states approved a treaty targeting cybercrime, the body’s first such text, despite fierce opposition from human rights activists who have warned of potential surveillance dangers.

After three years of negotiations and a final two-week session in New York, members approved the United Nations Convention Against Cybercrime by consensus, and it will now be submitted to the General Assembly for formal adoption.

The committee was set up, despite US and European opposition, following an initial move in 2017 by Russia.

The new treaty would enter into force once it has been ratified by 40 member nations and aims to prevent and combat cybercrime more efficiently and effectively, notably regarding child sexual abuse imagery and money laundering.

A former member of the House of Representatives (Somolu Federal Constituency), Wole Diya is dead, He was aged 63.

Diya, a two-term representative of Somolu Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, died early Friday, August 9th, 2024.

He died a few days before his 64th birthday which is expected to come up on Tuesday, August 20th, 2024.

Diya was a younger brother to former Chief of Defence Staff, Late General Oladipo Diya.

He was also a two-term member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Somolu State Constituency I.

Confirming his demise, the Chairman, Bariga Local Council, Hon. Kolade Alabi David said: “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, political associates, and the members of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the passing of Hon. Oyewole Babafemi Diya.
 
Hon. Wole Diya, a former Lagos State House of Assembly Member representing Somolu, later went on to represent Somolu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly.

The Federal Government has lifted the suspension on the operations of Arik Air.

Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), announced the development in a post on social media .

This comes more than a week after the airline’s planes were grounded over a dispute between Atlas Petroleum and Arik Air.

However, Achimugu said the conflict has been resolved.

On July 30, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said it grounded some aircraft belonging to Arik Air after a federal high court order. NAMA said the court’s order was regarding a case of $2.5 million owed by Arik to Atlas Petroleum International Ltd.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has directed successful candidates in the just concluded 2022 police recruitment to resume training tomorrow (Saturday, August 9) at the various police colleges across the country.

The resumption, the commission said, would last from August 10 to 20.

A statement on August 8 in Abuja by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the candidates expected to report for training are those who confirmed their status in the police recruitment portal: https://apply.policerecruitment.gov.ng.

PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), advised the candidates to ensure that they report to the colleges at the exact dates required of them.

He said the commission would continue to monitor their progress throughout their stay at the training colleges to ensure they come out fully prepared to serve the nation and contribute to the fight to rescue the nation from banditry and terrorism.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the military to flush out illegal miners.

Mining is a veritable source of revenue that can favourably compete with the income from oil.

Minister of Solid Minerals Dr. Dele Alake has stepped up efforts to make the sector perform optimally in revenue generation for the country.

To discourage criminality, the minister inaugurated the Mining Guard, deployed at sites nationwide.

Nigeria is rich in gold, tin, and coal, among other solid minerals.

The activities of illegal miners are prevalent in the Northwest, especially Zamfara State; Northcentral, especially in Niger, Nasarawa and Plateau states; Southwest in Osun and Ondo, among others.

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has urged the Federal Government to hold accountable those responsible for authorising and executing the invasion of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters in Abuja.

Mr Festus Osifo, TUC President, said this in a statement in Abuja.

Osifo described the invasion as a grave violation of fundamental rights, particularly the freedoms of speech and expression.

He called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident.

According to him, the invasion represents an overreach by security forces and poses a direct threat to the rights of Nigerian citizens.

Osifo called for the prompt return of all confiscated materials and an official explanation for what he termed an unjustified action.

According to a statement by NLC spokesperson Benson Upah, late on Wednesday, the operatives arrested the security guards, forcing them to hand over keys to the offices on the second floor.

The operatives then broke into the floor, ransacked the bookshop, and stole hundreds of books and publications.

Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland and the C.E.O of Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort has promised the commonwealth gold medalist Rofiat Lawal MON a cash reward, If she can clinch gold medal in the ongoing Olympic Games, Paris 2024.

According to him, this kind gesture is to motivate her to believe in herself that she can do it because he believes in her that she can make Oyo state proud and Nigeria at large.

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has declared that there has been improvement in the power sector following the reforms introduced by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
A statement by the ministry said, Adelabu stated this during the first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Power Sector Working Group set up by the President.
He said the working group was established to activate seamless power sector liquidity and financing and also to provide guidance in the governance structure particularly in the electricity distribution companies, DisCos.
Adelabu, who spoke on the reason for setting up the ministerial working group, said the power ministry is on the right track towards achieving the presidential mandate.
