JUST IN: No Ondo politician beat my credentials, says PDP gov candidate

JUST IN: No Ondo politician beat my credentials, says PDP gov candidate

:

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has said no politician matches his credentials and experience in the state.

Ajayi disclosed this while speaking on Channels Television Programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday.

Reeling out what distinguishes him from other politicians in the state, the former deputy governor boasted that he is not scared of Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s incumbency power because many incumbent governors have been defeated in the past.

Aiyedatiwa is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the election.

Ajayi said, “I started politics at a very tender age. I was a ward chairman in my local government and later the secretary of the ward. Then, I became a supervisory councillor twice, after which I became chairman of a tier committee in my local government, Ese-Odo. Later, I was elected as the council chairman for another three years. I was elected to House of Reps from 2007 to 2011. And then I became a deputy governor. I have a track record.

“As a matter of fact, with due respect to political leaders in Ondo State, I have never seen anybody who must have gotten through these stages and beat my credentials in Ondo politics.

“I did my best when I served as a deputy governor, and this is one of the credentials that stands me out. People know I have the capacity, and my name is a household name in Ondo State.

“I wasn’t able to do some things that I wanted to do because of the constitutional limitations of my office. The National Assembly should do something about it by spelling out the constitutional roles of the offices of the Vice President and deputy governor to make them more relevant.”

Speaking on why Eyitayo Jegede wasn’t contesting, Agboola said it was the south’s turn to produce the next governor of the state.

“The late Governor Akeredolu is from Ondo North. Ordinarily, he was supposed to spend eight years, but we want to believe that it is still his tenure. Former Governor Olusegun Mimiko from the Central spent eight years. Now, it is the turn of the South. That’s why, if you look at the two major political parties, the contestants are from the south.

“Eyitayo and I are friends; we are talking. He was supposed to be in my programme today but was unavoidably absent,” he said.

He, however, declined comment on the feud between him and the late Akeredolu that led to his eventual replacement as deputy governor.

“We disagreed. He was a nice man. He’s not alive today, and I don’t want to talk about him, so we should allow him to rest,” he said.

Asked how he intends to govern the state, the PDP governorship candidate said he would not govern Ondo with the Federal Government’s allocation after four years of emerging as governor, adding that he would turn the state into an economically viable one.

"I am from a riverine area. As governor, I would provide massive infrastructure to link the sea. Once that is done, our sea is much longer and deeper than Lagos State’s, which gives us leverage to make more money from it.

“Our sea is untapped. I will link the sea with the rail. We will let vessels and commercial trains that would be carrying heavy loads reduce the influx of trailers spoiling our road every day. We will make money, and the government will be doing very well,” he added.

Earlier, the PDP presented a Certificate of Return to Ajayi.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission has set November 16, 2024, as the scheduled date for the state’s election.

Let's Grow Oyo State Together, Pay Your Land Use Charge Now — MOE Charges

Let's Grow Oyo State Together, Pay Your Land Use Charge Now — MOE Charges

••• Here are four main reasons why every property owner should heed this call and fulfill their civic duty:

The Convener of Oose Seyi Movement Volunteers (OSM), Hon Moyosoreoluwa Olamilekan Eldreez a.k.a IJOBA AUTHORITY MOE has charge the residents of Oyo State that it is imperative to understand the gravity of paying Land Use Charge (LUC) promptly.

MOE charged all residential, commercial, educational, health, and industrial property owners in the state that it is mandatory, by law, to fulfill their civic duty by promptly settling of Land Use Charge bills for the year as early as possible.

Recall that, on the 9th of February, 2024, Oyo State Governor, H.E Engr Seyi Makinde FNSE signed this obligation into law, making it clear that non-compliance will result in severe consequences.

According to the Honorable Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon Williams Akin-Funmilayo, the government's directive for payment compliance is NOT NEGOTIABLE— it is a legal mandate crucial for propelling our beloved state towards greater heights.

"It's now a sin for anyone not to pay LAND USE CHARGE (LUC) due yearly as enforcement team are already charged to kick the ground running", Akin-Funmilayo stated.

And even beyond that, compliance is both a bureaucratic requirement and a fundamental pillar for propelling our beloved state towards greater heights. Here are four other compelling reasons why every property owner should heed this call and fulfill their civic duty:

1. Investment in Infrastructure and Development:

The revenue generated from the Land Use Charge plays a pivotal role in financing crucial infrastructure projects across the state. From road maintenance to the construction of schools, hospitals, and other public facilities, these funds are instrumental in enhancing the quality of life for all residents. By fulfilling our LUC obligations, we directly contribute to the advancement and modernization of our communities, ensuring that Oyo State remains a desirable place to live, work, and invest in, among all other states in our country.

2. Sustainable Urban Planning and Management:

Effective land use management is essential for fostering sustainable urban development and mitigating environmental challenges. By paying our Land Use Charge, we support the government's efforts in implementing comprehensive urban planning strategies. This includes zoning regulations, land conservation initiatives, and the provision of essential services to both rural and urban areas. Let's adhere to these principles, and create a more resilient and livable environment for current and future generations.

3. Supporting Social Welfare Programs:

A significant portion of the revenue generated from the Land Use Charge is allocated towards funding various social welfare programs aimed at uplifting the most vulnerable members of our society. From healthcare subsidies to education grants and poverty alleviation initiatives, these programs are instrumental in fostering social cohesion and reducing inequality. When we fulfill our LUC obligations, we contribute to the collective welfare of our fellow citizens, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of progress and prosperity which will be available for all.

4. Legal Compliance and Accountability:

The Land Use Charge is not just a fiscal obligation but a legal requirement enforced by the state government. Failure to comply with this mandate not only undermines the rule of law but also exposes property owners to potential legal consequences. When we pay our LUC on time and in full, we demonstrate our commitment to upholding the principles of good governance and civic responsibility. Moreover, adhering to legal requirements fosters transparency, accountability, and trust in government institutions, laying the foundation for a more equitable and inclusive society where everyone is equal.

Dear people of Oyo State, the payment of Land Use Charge is not merely a financial transaction but a civic duty that binds us together as responsible citizens of Oyo State. Let's fulfill this obligation and contribute to the progress, prosperity, and well-being of our communities from Oke-Ogun one and two, Ogbomosho, Ibarapa, Oyo and Ibadan zones respectively.

Let us join hands in building a brighter prosperous future for Oyo State, where every resident including our unborn generations can thrive and prosper.

We can do it and we will do it, under the headship of the honorable commissioner for Min of lands housing and urban development, Mr Akin-Funmilayo Williams through the distinguished leadership of our able Governor, His Excellency Engr Dsc GSSRS KJW Abiodun Seyi Makinde FNSE.

Ignore the Ranting of the Opposition, PDP is Winning All - Oyo PDP Declares in Ibarapa

Ignore the Ranting of the Opposition, PDP is Winning All - Oyo PDP Declares in Ibarapa

In ensuring no stone is left unturned in securing victory for all her candidates in the Saturday's local government poll, the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State and the election management team  was in Ibarapa where the cheerful party members, leaders and traditional rulers were already on ground.

The deputy chairman and the representative of the Party chairman, Hon. James Olukunle charged all party members not to play into the hands of the opposition by joining them in any act of violence capable of disrupting on the day of election.

He reiterated the Governor's assertion that PDP will clear all the 33 local government chairmanship candidates and 351 councillorship candidates on Saturday.

The Oyo south senatorial chairman of PDP in Oyo State, Alhaji Kamorudeen Adeyemi  commended the Governor Makinde for running a responsive government with human face.

Alhaji Adeyemi charged the excited crowd to troop out in en masse on Saturday to vote for all the PDP candidates  as they have done for the rallies.

In his goodwill message, Dr Mikail Aborode, from Ibarapa North commended Governor Seyi Makinde for making the PDP the darling  Party of the people in Oyo State.  He said the Governor's laudable work has made it easier for the party to canvass for votes and support from the people.

He further implored the candidates not to renege on the promises they made to the people  as the promises have become a covenant between them, the people and God.

In his own goodwill message, a former commissioner from Ibarapa East, former Hon. M. A Ojoawo charged the people to keep faith with the Engr Seyi Makinde led administration.

The former commissioner urged the people not to give in to the lies of the opposition. He said Governor Makinde’s achievements are all there for all to see unlike the lies being peddled by the opposition. He urged the people to continue to support the PDP and Engr Seyi Makinde administration as it is too late for anyone to contemplate going to the opposition party.

Addressing the crowd at Eruwa town hall, the commissioner for trade, investment and cooperative in Oyo State, Hon. Ademola Ojo said Governor Makinde has set a developmental pace that no former governors in the history of Oyo State has been matched. This, he said has given edge to all the candidates of the PDP standing for election as there are many achievements to campaign with.

Hon Ojo made it known that the Saturday poll is going to be PDP all through and if anyone wants to do otherwise it will end up futile.

He emphasized the PDP as the most popular and powerful in Oyo.

Seizing the opportunity, the commissioner for youths and sports, Hon. Adegoke Wasilat implored the youths not to be used as instruments of violence before, during and after the election. This is just as she said Saturday poll is the turn of the PDP which shouldn't cause issues as the opposition has had theirs.

While presenting the flags to the chairmanship and vice chairmanship candidates in Ibarapa, the Director General of Election Management Team and the Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party in Oyo State, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke said the Saturday's election is a PDP affair hence the opposition should go and wait for their turn as the Governor has advised them during the Ido campaign.

He further admonished party members to ignore the rantings of the opposition parties about rigging as the allegation is baseless and lacking  substance as the allegation should be termed as cry of a defeated entity.

The secretary further explained that the APC has technically accepted defeat and that's why they have resorted to making empty noise which is their stock in trade.

He assured the teeming party faithfuls that the party will deliver all the 351 councillors and all the 33 local government chairmen in Oyo State.

Adeleke urged party members to troop out in their numbers to vote for all PDP candidates on Saturday and they should ensure the results are written where they should be.

He warned anyone who is planning to foment troubles while the electoral process is on will be caught and charged to court as appropriate.

The candidates of the People’s Democratic Party who received the Party’s flags included Hon. Kazeem Arogundade Owolabi and his runningmate, Hon. Olakunle Olalowo from Ibarapa East; Hon. Lawal Lateef Akorede and his co-runner, Hon. Bisi Akande from Ibarapa North; and Hon. Adeleke Ayodele Olusola

and runningmate, Hon. Rasheed Babarinde from Ibarapa Central.

Party stakeholders across the three local government present were Alhaji kamoru Adeyemi, Chief Wale Atanda Alase, Hon. (Mrs) Funmilayo Orisadeyi, Hon. Monsuru Oduola, Hon. Gbenga Obalowo, Hon. Adedoyin Adeoye and a host of others.

Part of the State executive committee present at the campaign were Mr Ogunsina Michael Oluwaseun, the State youth leader and the acting publicity secretary of the party, Hon. Adelabu Aderemi Alaba, the State auditor; Mrs Dupe Temileyi and amongst others.

During the heated exchange in the debate titled "ONA ARA LG FACE OFF," Dr. Glorious seized the opportunity to confront Akanni Ere with a pointed question, asking, "Why are you engaging yourself in political betting when you contested the Oyo House of Assembly seat, which was won by the very brilliant Oyo Deputy Speaker, Honourable Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, and yet you're now contesting for the Chairmanship position? Is it because you don't have work? Or is there no other competent person in the APC?"

This incisive question underscored the stakes of the upcoming local government elections and highlighted the need for accountability and commitment from candidates vying for public office.

Dr. Glorious used the opportunity to outlined his visionary "NEW ERA" agenda comprising six key points to govern Ona Ara Local Government effectively once elected.

Additionally, Dr. Glorious pointed out that despite Akanni Ere holding multiple positions of influence in Ona Ara Local Government, he has failed to initiate any developmental projects in his own village in Ward 4 (Gbada Efon).

I have promised the people living in the village a borehole during my first 100 days in office as chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. GLORIOUS' said

This exchange not only showcased Dr. Glorious' commitment to transparency and progress but also highlighted the need for effective leadership and accountability in local governance.
