Oyo Lawmaker Abiodun Babalola Calls For Regulation Of Real Estate Agents’ Activities In Oyo State

Hon Abiodun Babalola Calls For Regulation Of Real Estate Agents’ Activities In Oyo State.

The lawmaker representing Ibadan Northeast Constituency 1 at the State House of Assembly, Hon Abiodun Babalola called on the Oyo State Government to embark on the regulation of activities of Estate Agents

The lawmakers who frowned at the antics of the real estate agents who duped unsuspecting residents called for decisive action in tackling the menace.

The lawmaker who co-sponsored a motion during plenary on Tuesday, titled , Need To Regulate Activities of Estate Agents to Safeguard Unsuspecting Customers Against Fraud and Exploitation in The State.”

According to the motion, “fraudulent activities of fake real estate agents and seemingly licensed developers against accommodation seekers are a rife menace in Oyo State. Most of these fake real estate actors deploy various designs ranging from fake or false advertisement of properties upon which they have no title or authority to deal, to disappearing into elusive air after receiving rental and allied funds.

“This ugly trend led to widespread outcry which was mostly heard by security agencies. There are instances when a single agent will fraud three or more potential tenants on a property that is not in his custody.

On 8th October, 2021, a Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 31-year-old real estate agent, Sunday Ikoni, to five years imprisonment for defrauding nine accommodation seekers of N3.9 million.

“The convict was arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on fraud, stealing, obtaining money under false pretense and unlawful conversion, to which he pleaded guilty.

On 22nd September, 2024 the Oyo State Police Command paraded a 60-year-old real estate agent, Adeyemi Isaac, who had been posing as a serving Commissioner of Police and, on another occasion, as an Assistant Inspector General of Police. The Monitoring Unit of the Command initiated discreet human intelligence gathering, which eventually led to his arrest at his hideout in Oyo town.

Further Note that the house agents in Oyo are in the habit of collecting fees such as registration fees, Agency fees, Agreement fees, Caution fees, Legal fees, and Inspection fees among several others. All these charges are rather too exploitative hence the issue of real estate needs intervention by the state government, there is a need to curtail this menace by the Oyo State government. The need for the establishment of a Real Estate Regulatory Authority to eliminate the activities of impostors, fraudsters, and unaccredited real estate agents who adopt sharp practices is not negotiable. It is hoped that the regulation will encourage and improve private investment in the real estate sector in Oyo State and boost the internally generated revenue of the state.

“Observe that the Government has the responsibility to protect its subjects against financial abuse while agents hide under solving housing problems for the potential tenants.

I did not take part in killing Chief Bola Ige… - Sunday Igboho debunks allegations by Aare Gani Adams

In the voice note released by Aare Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo, said things that attacked my character.

He said a lot of wrong and bad things against me. He mentioned the names of the Nigeria President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and some other notable persons in Yoruba land.

In the said note, Aare Gani Adams said I was involved in the killing of the late Chief Bola Ige, SAN. Everyone will still remember the circumstances of the death of Chief Bola Ige who was the Minister of Justice at the time he was brutally murdered.

It goes without saying that no one or evidence has ever connected me to his death until this frivolities, malicious and highly scandalous by Aare Gani Adams.

I want to categorically state that I knew nothing about the killing and death of Chief Bola Ige. Chief Bola Ige died in Ibadan on 23 December 2001 and by newspaper and police reports, one Fryo was charged with the murder.

In that year, I was engaged in the settlement of Ife-Modakeke war. I can also remember that it was the same year Aare Gani Adams was imprisoned in Lagos when he was charged with murder and public disturbance arising out of inter-communal violence in Lagos in 2002, and the law firm of late Chief Gani Fawehinmi represented and got bail for him at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi Lagos.

I challenge Gani Adams to come forward and prove his assertions.

He claimed one Tayo Ayinde gave me money at his Ikeja Hotel on behalf of Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubu, who is now the Nigeria President.

I want to state that I did not go to any hotel in Lagos State to collect money from anyone relating to Asiwaju Bola Hamed Tinubu since he became the President.

Unlike what Gani Adams’ said in his voice note, I was never charged to court for murder, nor did I kill anyone to warrant my being charged to court.

The voice note showed the mind that has serious malice against my personality. It is on record that despite my respect for his position as Oyo Chief, the media is full of many bad things he said about me in the past.

Finally, i need not remind the Omoluabi Yoruba that i have the same tribal marks on my face as the late Alafin Adeyemi, Omo Oba ni mi.

I am not contesting Aare Gani Adams position.

Nje asiko kò ti ito fun Aare lati dagunro. Yoruba Nation needs unity at this dangerous moment, not ote ati Ilara.

I leave this allegation to the court of public opinion. Even though my initial reaction was to sue him, but i was advised to take it as Iti Ogede ti kose yo Ada si ni asiko ti Ile Yoruba wa ninu Ewu.

Thank you for your time.

Signed:

Chief Sunday Adeyemo (a.k.a Igboho Oosa)

Shooting Stars 2-0 Remo Stars: Pyagbara's Brace Sinks Remo Stars

Shooting Stars 2-0 Remo Stars: Pyagbara's Brace Sinks Remo Stars

Christian Pyagbara hit the target twice, once in each half to condemn Remo Stars of Ikenne to a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, in a Matchday 26 fixture.

Under the floodlight, in an electrifying atmosphere, the Oluyole Warriors emerged the best of the Stars in the South West derby, played at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex.

Coming to Ibadan with a bragging right, having been undefeated by the Ibadan soccer lords in any league match, the Sky Blue Stars met more than what they bargained for as 3SC, backed by a huge number of their backers, showed sheer determination and the zeal to end the winless streak against the visitors.

Pyagbara fired the Oluyole Warriors to an early lead, scoring the opener in the 15th minute, with right back, Muritala Taiye providing the assist.

The coach Gbenga Ogunbote tutored lads, held on to the one nil lead till the end of the first half.

Remo Stars tried to change the tide of the game in their favour in the second half, but couldn't break the defense line of the hosts, ably marshalled by the quartet of Aniyikaye Adeleye, Adelowo Gbolagade, Ehibe Victor and Muritala Taiye, while goalkeeper Okemute Odah, complemented the efforts of his backline.

Remo Stars were reduced to ten men, as Sikiru Alimi was sent off, afetr collecting a second yellow card.

Pyagbara would later compound the woes of the coach Gbenga Ogunmodede' tutored team in the 78 minute, as he capitalised on a slip by goalkeeper Charles Tambe, who failed to deal with the ball, to grab his second goal of the day and ultimately seal a famous win for the Oluyole Warriors

The win makes it three consecutive victories and six matches without defeat for Shooting Stars, who have also kept four clean sheets in a row on their home ground.

The Oluyole Warriors, who have thus jumped to the sixth position on the log with 40 points from 26 matches, will hope to continue with their good run when they face Niger Tornadoes on Friday, in a Matchday 27 fixture billed for the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

OPINION: The Ibadan Obaship and Its Uniqueness || by Asoju Odo Alawode Rahmon

OPINION: The Ibadan Obaship and Its Uniqueness || by Asoju Odo Alawode Rahmon

As an indigene of the ancient city of Ibadan, hailing from the Atipe-Looyin Compound and Badeku Village in Ona Ara Local Government, I feel compelled to shed light on the uniqueness of the chieftaincy and Obaship tradition of Ibadanland, amidst calls for a review.

Every system has its merits and demerits, and the Ibadan Obaship system is no exception. One notable aspect of this system is the advanced age at which kings typically ascend the throne, often resulting in relatively short reigns. While some criticize this aspect, I believe there are compelling reasons why this system is indeed beautiful:

1. Predictability of succession: The Ibadan Obaship system operates on two lines—the Ọ̀tún (civil line) and the Balógun (military line). This structured succession ensures clarity and continuity, as the next king is already known based on the rotation between the lines.

2. Rigorous grooming process: Each Olúbàdàn undergoes a thorough grooming process steeped in tradition and heritage. From the Mọ́gàjí stage to ascending the throne, individuals are immersed in the customs and values of Ibadanland, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of their role.

3. Inclusive eligibility: Unlike some other traditional systems, the Ibadan Obaship is open to all true indigenes of Ibadan, regardless of lineage. This inclusivity ensures that the throne is accessible to a wide range of individuals, promoting diversity and representation.

4. Stability and accountability: The advanced age and extensive grooming process of Olúbàdàns contribute to a sense of stability and wisdom in leadership. This reduces the likelihood of misbehavior or desecration of the throne, as incumbents are aware of their limited time and the importance of upholding tradition.

5. Rotation of leadership: The rotational nature of the Obaship ensures that leadership opportunities are distributed among different individuals and compounds, fostering a sense of equity and participation in governance.

While it is true that Olúbàdàns do not reign for long compared to some other Yoruba kingdoms, the benefits of the Ibadan Obaship system far outweigh this drawback. It is a system rooted in tradition, inclusivity, and stability, contributing to the rich cultural heritage and development of Ibadanland.
