Oyo Govt. Seals Illegal Health Facilities, Vows To End Quackery

Oyo Govt. Seals Illegal Health Facilities, Vows To End Quackery

The Oyo State Government, on Tuesday, sealed two private hospitals in Oyo town, over quackery and other illegalities.

The hospitals sealed by the State Hospital Monitoring Task Force were Wise and Pearl Hospital Limited, Akeetan-Tuntun and Living Stone Clinic and Maternity, Idi - Ose, Alaafin High School, Oyo.

The Coordinator of the Task Force, Dr. Wale Falana, while speaking shortly after the exercise, said the move was part of the efforts of the Oyo state government to get rid of quackery and other atrocities done by some individuals in the health sector.

Dr. Falana, who is also the Director of Secondary Health Care, Ministry of Health, revealed that the government will continue to wage war against all forms of illegalities in private hospitals and clinics to ensure residents have access to quality health care.

He explained that the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration is passionate about the well-being of every individual; hence, there is a need for private health facilities to comply with best practices and abide by the rules laid down by the Oyo state government.

Dr. Falana warned proprietors of health facilities in the state that are yet to get approval from the government to do what is necessary without further delay or face saction.

He expressed displeasure over irregularities in the conduct of the concerned hospitals, noting that patients under their care were at high risks.

Dr. Falana urged residents of the state to be mindful and conscious of health facilities they patronize for treatment to prevent unforeseen circumstances.

His words, "Quackery is a serious issue. These people are doing surgeries, some are even into training, have accommodation for trainees, and you can see the owner of one of the places visited ran away. "

“This monitoring is part of efforts ministry of health and the government to get rid of quackery, we are going to continue, and it  will be regularly."

"The present administration is trying to correct the wrongs perpetrated by some people. Therefore, we appeal to medical practitioners to put their licences in their facilities. "

“Residents are also advised to ask for annual practising licenses collected from the government by health facilities, if they are to go to private clinics or hospitals for treatment”.

“Residents can key into the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme, it doesn't cost much and it is safe."

“There is normal standard for opening of hospitals, they can come to the ministry of health for enquiries on this, but we don't have room for quackery practices in Oyo state”, he added.

The hospital monitoring team found two other private hospitals worthwhile, while the remaining two out of the six health facilities visited during the tour were advised to work on identified issues within the shortest possible time.

Makinde Tasks Police to Review Daytime Roadblock Strategy

Makinde Tasks Police to Review Daytime Roadblock Strategy

- Pledges continued support

Oyo State governor, 'Seyi Makinde, has challenged the Nigeria Police to review the daytime roadblock strategy they deploy in manning the state.

The governor gave this charge on Wednesday while receiving the new Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone XI, comprising Oyo and Osun states, AIG Paul Odama, who paid him a courtesy visit in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde, who maintained that the police had been playing a stabilising role in the polity, stated that the roadblocks could impede international investors as it gave the perception of a state at war.  According to him, the number of roadblocks on major highways in Oyo State needed to be reviewed in order to improve the ease of doing business.

He suggested that officers could easily communicate from a central location using technology.

He equally praised the officers and men of the Oyo State Police Command for the great job they have been doing as he emphasised the challenging nature of policing the state.

He said, “If you are going from here to Kishi, you will probably spend maybe five hours on the road, and we share an international border with the Republic of Benin.”

The Governor added, “We are not relenting in supporting the security agencies. We have bought a new set of vehicles and gadgets that we want to distribute to the police and other agencies too.”

He said that his administration would continue to foster cooperation and a cordial relationship with the police.

“We are really alive to our responsibilities in securing the state, and we will extend that to the zone,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, AIG Odama appreciated the governor for supporting the Oyo State Police Command through regular donations of security vehicles and communication gadgets.

He stated that the governor's support is exemplary, as, according to him, no other state in the country has done so well in terms of providing welfare to the command.

He assured the governor that the Oyo State Police would continue to work hard and put in their best in securing the state. He further solicited more support for Zone XI which he said is 60% Oyo State and 40% Osun State. He said, “Like Oliver Twist, we will ask for more because I know you will assist.”

Promise Fulfilled: 1533 LAUTECH Students Resume in Iseyin

Promise Fulfilled: 1533 LAUTECH Students Resume in Iseyin

One Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Three (1533) 200 Level students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso will resume at the Iseyin Campus, by the end of October, 2023.

This is in fulfilment of the promise made by Governor Seyi Makinde during the commissioning of the Iseyin campus, last month.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, on Tuesday, the college of Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources, will begin the second semester in Iseyin on October 23, 2023.

The Commissioner recalled that his counterpart in the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Saliu Adelabu has held series of meetings with the Pro- Chancellor, Prof. Deji Omole and the Ag. Vice-chancellor to ensure the realisation of the students' resumption.

According to him, the resumption is significant because since April, 2023 when Oyo State Government announced the movement of the Agriculture Faculty to Iseyin, commencement of lecture for the 200 level students will now formally begin.

Last week Thursday, the Ag. Vice-chancellor, Prof. Rasaq Olatunde Kalilu led the institution's management team, to a meeting with stakeholders, where community leaders pledged their absolute support for the resumption and promised, to do all in their power to ensure comfortable stay of the coming students.

Prince Oyelade said agreement was reached on affordable accommodation, transportation and security measures in anticipation of their resumption.

Some of the lecturers, who may not secure immediate accomodation within Iseyin township, have made arrangements, to come from their Ogbomoso base on daily basis.

This is made feasible, because the newly constructed 76km Ogbomoso-Iseyin road, is 55 minutes drive.

The Commissioner recalled that the first semester officially ended on October 3, 2023

FG to start home delivery of passports next year

The Federal Government has announced that Nigerians will have the option of getting their passports delivered to them at home, offices, and other places of choice from the beginning of next year.

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 2023 University of Lagos International Week.

Ojo said;

“We have commenced the automation of our end-to-end passport application process, and we have given a timeline from which Nigerians will begin to experience the ‘sweet experience.

“By implication, Nigerians will not need to wait longer than two weeks before they get their passport.

“By January next year, Nigerians will be able to complete this application process online, and by February next year, with collaboration and partnership with other relevant stakeholders, Nigerians will have their passports delivered to their homes, offices, and other locations of their choice.

“This, of course, would be extended to our visa application process. We are deploying technology throughout the entire process to make it as seamless as possible. To achieve this, we have set everything into motion to open more visa application centres across the world.

“In this regard, we are also working on strengthening our visa-on-arrival policy. We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enforce the principle of the doctrine of reciprocity, and a committee has been set up in the ministry to achieve this.”

Ojo also said that the integrity of travel documents would be restored via data harmonisation. He said;

“Identity is who we are, what we are, and what we live for. But today, what we have is a duplication of our registration.

“Arguably, Nigeria is the only country I know that has a BVN for the bank, the international passport, the NIN, SIM card registration for telecos, and so on all of which request your data. The integrity of our travel documents must be restored through the harmonisation of our data.”
