Oil Marketers Demand Increase in Petrol Prices as Ghana, Benin, Togo, Others Sell N1,000/litre

  •  Petroleum marketers in Nigeria are pushing for further upward review in prices
  • They say the current price of petrol does not allow them to make a profit considering current realities
  • Tunji Onyebanji, a former Chairman of Major Oil Marketers of Nigeria (MOMAN), said the product is sold higher in neighbouring countries.

Oil marketers insist that the current petrol prices in Nigeria do not reflect the market realities, saying that a further price review will make them break even. The development comes after petrol prices were increased twice in two months from N189/liter to N500/liter and, recently, from N537 per litre to N617/ litre across Nigeria.

Petrol sells higher in neighbouring countries

Punch reports that the former Chairman of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria and CEO of 11 Plc, Tunji Oyebanji, said the review will reflect current market realities. Oyebanji said that neighbouring countries sell products close to or above N1,000 per litre.

He said:

“If the prices in neighbouring countries reflect true market prices and our own do not, there is still a danger. We won't know the exact situation until we all import at the new exchange rate, know the price, and compare it with our neighbours. Likely, the differential will not be so much.”

Marketers project new petrol prices for July

An investigation shows that while Nigeria sells petrol at N617 per litre, the product sells around N1,169 in Mali, N986 in Ivory Coast, Cameroon at N986, Ghana at N984, Togo N945, and Benin Republic N877 per litre, respectively.

The National Controller of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) stated that petrol prices could rise from N600 to N700 per litre in July.

He added that competition was healthy for the industry and allowed a level-playing field for market operators.

Legit.ng reported that the products sells as high as N1,100 in countries like Mali and Togo.

Recent reports say that black market fuel vendors and commercial drivers in Cameroon, Benin, and Togo have seen the collapse of their businesses due to low supplies and high prices as Nigeria removed subsidies from petrol.

Marketers alert Nigerians on new petrol prices for North, South regions as Private Companies Begin Importation

Legit.ng reported that Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced that Nigerians should expect the pump price of petrol to rise above N700 per litre, particularly in the Northern region starting from July.

Mike Osatuyi, the National Controller of IPMAN, who disclosed this, also asked residents of Lagos to expect petrol prices of around N610 per litre.

According to a report by Punch, the new prices will come into effect when independent marketers begin importing petroleum products.

NPF sets to investigate Cute Abiola

RE: POLICE UNIFORM: COMEDIAN ABDULGAFAR ABIOLA, AKA "CUTE ABIOLA’S" CONTEMPTUOUS ACT IS CRIMINAL, PUNISHABLE

In as much as the law grants Nigerians the right to enjoy their fundamental human rights, the same law prohibits an individual, under whatever guise, from rubbishing the police institution or grossly violating its provisions with regards to the use of uniforms.

We, therefore, vehemently condemn the contemptuous act displayed by comedian Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as "Cute Abiola," in two recent skits posted on his social media handles on 20th and 24th July, 2023. The skits in question show a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, an action that is in direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law. Such acts are not only offensive but also undermine the integrity and dignity of the men and women who wear the uniform in service to the nation.

Abdulgafar Abiola will be investigated and possibly prosecuted for his deliberate acts as the NPF had already warned skit makers and filmmakers to desist from desecrating its uniform or accoutrements. The Force is committed to upholding the sanctity of the uniform and will pursue due legal process to ensure accountability for any individual or entity that seeks to bring disrepute to the uniform or the institution it represents. We call on all members of the public, including media personalities, to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could erode public trust in our revered law enforcement institutions.

Omituntun 2.0: My Visit To PTS, OYSROMA And Accessment Of Makinde's Competent Aides | By Ijoba Authority MOE

Today, I took a short while to pay a courtesy visit to the duo, newly appointed chairmen into Pacesetters Transport Services and  Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency  Oysroma , Hon. (Dr)  Dikko Salami Ibraheem Oladeji and Hon. Busoye Ogunlade.

It's not yet an official visit but an impromptu visit to congratulate them on their new appointment as approved by His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr Dsc GSSRS KJW Abiodun Seyi Makinde FNSE.

No doubt that both have the capacity to run the position in a seamless way as the Chairman Oystroma was reappointed due to his unprecedented track records noticed and verified when he was there during OMITUNTUN 1.0 hence propelled Mr Governor and absolutely convincing to reward him by re-engaging him to man the agency for the good people of Oyo State.

At the same time, the newly appointed chairman and sole administrator for PTS, Hon. Oladeji Ibraheem Salami whose leadership skill that was exhibited during the campaign could not be eschewed but well felt across to the youth constituency and beyond. He is such a agile, vibrating magnet putting his best to the success of his principal upon which I served as his Chairman Youth Media GSM 2023 approved by Gov. Seyi Makinde .

Without any argument, beyond rhetorics, there is reward for Patience, Hard work, Integrity, Humility and Unending Commitment towards a goal, focus and Vision to accomplish a mission. I am not surprised seeing the duo in this highly exalted office. Coincidentally, both offices is just a stone throw, both are Bossom friends and of the same very brill height.

And finally, let it be on record that Governor Makinde has made another history and record breaking appointment again by giving the chairman PTS the sole administrator Power pen which is the first of it's kind after the military era. This means that the bulk stops on his desk.

As Chairman Oystroma promised today that there will be zero potholes on our roads going forward since marching order has been given on the spot by His Excellency, say bye bye to potholes in Oyo State.

My dear Governor, the Man Called MAKINSSON, The Ilufemiloye1, Aare Atunluse Aare IDAN and Aare Orile Igbon Kingdom, it's true you rewards hard work, labour of love, productive talents and building a refined political scientist that will change the fortune of the State, the nation and world at large for a greater future ahead of us. Keep lifting us so as to have more change agents for a better society.

Once again my Gov, I thank you for paving ways for Nigerian Youths in Politics.

Jonathan visits Tinubu in Aso Rock

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Also said to be meeting with the President were the Governors Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara).

While the purpose of the meetings remains unclear, Jonathan’s return to the Villa comes barely a month after his June 13 visit.

Jonathan, who doubles as Head of the ECOWAS Mediation Team to Mali, noted that the visit was to discuss issues pertaining to Africa and the West Africa subregion.

“I came to brief the president about some continental and subcontinental bodies,” he told journalists on his exit from the State House.

“I am the ECOWAS mediator for Mali and I’m the chair of the West African Elders Forum. So, there are certain issues bordering on the continent and the subregion that I discuss with various presidents.”
