Alleged sexual exploitation: Court remands Skit maker ‘Trinity Guy,’ victim’s parents

A Family Court sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Monday, ordered the remand of a skit maker, Maruf Abdullahi, popularly known as “Trinity”, in Agodi correctional facility over alleged sexual exploitation of a 10-year-old girl.

The court also arraigned Isiaka Ahmed, 40, and his wife, Rofiat, 29, who are parents of the victim on two-count charges of conspiracy and sexual abuse and exploitation alongside the skit maker.

The Magistrate, Mrs P.O. Adetuyibi, who did not take the defendants’ plea for want of jurisdiction, said that the case file had been filed and duplicated at the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.

Adetuyibi remanded the three defendants in Agodi correctional facility, Ibadan, pending July 11 when the case would come up for mention.

The Defence Counsel, Mr Oludare Adebayo, argued that Section 41 empowered the court to hear the matter.

Adebayo also said the victim was a product of poverty.

The magistrate said that the case file had been duplicated, but added that not until the Ministry of justice accepted to withdraw it that she could hear the matter.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oluwakemi Arowosaye, had told the court that the three defendants conspired together to sexually abuse the girl.

Arowosaye said that “Trinity”, on Dec. 17, 2022, sexually abused and exploited the girl in Kuola area of Ibadan.

“Abdullahi was asking the victim the colour of his penis, recording the scene and posting it on social media,” she said.

According to her, the offences are contrary to Section 35 (1) and punishable under Section 35 (2) of Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.

Arowosaye said that the offences also contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that if the skit maker is found guilty of the offence, he is liable to 15 years imprisonment under the Child Rights Law, 2006.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this at the 2023 Policy Meeting of Tertiary Institutions in Abuja on Saturday.

He said that all institutions must abide by this rule and must not go below the approved points.

He also said that every tertiary institution must ensure its own minimum standard, especially as it relates to institutional screening and grading in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), which must not be lower than 50 marks.

”All institutions must abide by this minimum point. This means that no institution can go below the standard.

”For the 15 private universities that demand between 120 and 130 as minimum points, note that the 140 is sacrosanct and must not be violated.

OMITUNTUN 2.0: WHAT GOV MAKINDE MAY LIKELY DO ON AGRIBUSINESS, IMPROVES IGR, EMPLOYMENT FOR ALL, MOE UNVEILS

Egalitarian Dig Com Moyosoreoluwa Olamilekan Eldreez has unveil what GSM may likely do on Agribusiness, improves Internal Generated Revenue, Employment for all.

Since assuming office, Governor Seyi Makinde has worked with his manifesto, The Oyo State Roadmap for Accelerated Development , 2019-2023. He has followed this plan as he prioritises the four pillars of governance upon which the map is built – Economy (through agribusiness), Education, Healthcare and Security.

In short, his administration was just eight months when covid came in as a global sock absorber to world economy and mass exodus of death rolls from yound to old. Apparently, Gov. makinde in real sense only did what we are seeing in just two and half years and hopefully to run Omituntun 2.0 hundred percent without excuses.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration during Omituntun 1.0, prioritised growing the economy of Oyo State to move the people from poverty to prosperity. With agribusiness as the major driver of the economy, Oyo State has attracted private investments of over N27 billion in agribusiness alone in the last four years.

However, towards the tale end of accelerated development administration, Gov. Makinde received a team from Shell Nigeria Gas Limited led by the Executive Director, Ed Ubong. The team were in Ibadan to present the finished Oyo State Gas Distribution Infrastructure Masterplan. In case you don't know, let me inform you that the Shell Nigeria Gas Ltd is constructing a Pressure Reduction and Metering Station (PRMS) on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis and  it will deliver gas to industrial, manufacturing and commercial entities in Oyo State.

Moreso, Mr D. Subashkumar, a representative of one of the companies which attended the Oyo State International Business Summit, on May 18th, 2023 Karma Agric Feeds and Foods Ltd. Where Mr Governor met with their Chairman in London on the sidelines of the summit, and agreed to expand their operations in Oyo State by investing an additional $30 million. The only support they requested from Gov Makinde's administration was a guarantee that they would get gas supply by Q2 2024 which was promised and committed to do under Sustainable Development Vision and Growth of Omituntun 2.0

As we all know that the good people of Oyo state are expecting so much from His Excellency hence why he was given the second term bid over his contenders in the General elections, this calls for more hard work and he did promised that, Omituntun 2.0 is an upgrade of Omituntun 1.0

One of the major areas under his concentration is the AgriBusiness for the expansion of economy through which investors can easily be attracted to develop, creates job opportunities and other niche. Let me usher you into those likely expectations anticipating under this new administration of Sustainable Development Vision and Growth Model.

These are likely things His Excellency, The Man Called MAKINSSON may likely make happen under the Omituntun 2.0 ;

The construction of the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub is in advanced stages and businesses like Chief Quails Limited and SWAgCo Limited have already started producing crops there while FreislandCampina WAMCO Nigeria has signed an MOU for livestock production.

The Fruit processing plants short term if linked with existing processors but medium to long term if new off-takers will be brought in. Meat processing industries, Modern central fish market and Small scale irrigation schemes for farms on existing dams in the four agricultural zones. Possible collaboration with the Federal Government on the use of the silos in the state will be looked into as well.

Ensuring that the farmers actually have access to subsidized inputs (fertilizers, improved seeds, tractor hiring etc). This means that the list of registered farmers in the state must be validated and updated to weed out fake farmers’ names and register authentic ones, with the GPS of their farms adequately recorded to prevent multiple uses of particular farmland by many fictitious farmers. In addition, the State Government can complement the efforts of the Federal Government in the supply of subsidized inputs. Linking some farmers with the Staple Crop Processing Zones closest to them in order to take advantage of the existing markets for the farmers’ products in those zones.

The preparations has been finalised for the launch of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) which is backed by the African Development Bank (AfDB). SAPZ will commence in a 300-hectare facility in Atan Community in Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan.

Provision of adequate agricultural extension services by making the living conditions in the agricultural production sites conducive through the provision of rural infrastructure amenities such as electricity, health facilities, potable water, and good roads, among others.

The plan to upgrade the nine (9) farm settlements in Oyo State to agribusiness industrial hubs is on course. The contracts for three (3) of the farms settlements have been awarded and work is in advanced stages at the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Eruwa Agribusiness Industrial Hub while Akufo will commence when Fasola has been completed which will have modern facilities and create employment opportunities for young people.

Adequate and sustainable irrigation infrastructure strategy. Already, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Oyo State Government and Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority for irrigation of farms in Oyo State.

The government will make adequate credit accessible to farmers and agro-entrepreneurs. They will be assisted with a take-off loan which must be repaid at a specified but convenient rate and time period for the youths. The credit for the generality of the farmers will be designed in a manner that repayment is not cumbersome. Loan facilities are available to farmers under the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS) at a single digit rate.

As I round off, on Saturday 10th, May 2023, Gov. Makinde and his team visited the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub to meet with investors already operating at the hub which is 100% fully subscribed. The value of investments so far is about $2.6 million and this will increase by the time the hub is completed and processing facilities are fully operational.

He also visited a large-scale agribusiness investment in Iseyin, the Oyo Sugarcane Processors Ltd and met with the Chairman, Chief Adepoju Olusola.

In his statement reads: "The business will be processing 30 tonnes of brown sugar daily and employing over 500 people as permanent staff by the time the processing facility is completed. The company will also serve as an offtaker for smallholder farmers he concluded".

Conclusively, My Principal Effulgent Leader, Exceptional Inspirational Educationist Revolutionary, Missionary Master, His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr. Dsc. GSSRS KJW Abiodun Oluwaseyi MAKINDE FNSE is making sense, will be greatly able to achieve the set goal 7.5bn IGR growth targeted at repositioning, remodelling, rebranding the entire state for future Global recognition as well become the headquarter of sustainable economic development Hub in Nigeria. HAPPY DEMOCRACY DAY!

BREAKING: President Tinubu breaks silence on suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele

President Tinubu has broken his silence on the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries.

Tinubu said the nation’s financial system under the suspended Emefiele was rotten.

He said many Nigerians abroad were unable to send money to their relatives because of the multiple exchange rates, saying all that have become a thing of the past.

“Then the financial system was rotten. Few people making bags of our money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows… but that is gone now, is gone.

“The man is in the hands of authorities, something is being done about that, they will sort themselves out.”

Court Remands Nine Auxiliary’s Allies Over Alleged Robbery, Attempted Murder

The state Magistrate court, Iyaganku on Friday has remanded nine associates of an embattled former chairman of the park management system, Oyo State Mukaila Lamidi popular known as Auxiliary for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, attempted murder and unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects are, Olaniyi Abiodun, Kamoru Yusuf, Odunayo Ismaika, Kolawole Joshua, and Oladosun Kunle.

Others are, Fatai Abidemi, Oluwoke Akanbi, Sarafadeen Adewale, and Tirimisiyu Odunayo

They were arraigned on a 16-count charge at Ibadan Magistrate Court, Iyaganku on Friday but pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The charge sheets read in part, “That you, ( suspects) and others now at large on 29th May 2023 at about 2:00 pm at Governor Seyi Makinde”s residence, Ikolaba area, Ibadan in the Magistrate Court District did conspire together to commit felony to wit armed robbery and, thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under section 6 (B) of the robbery and firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R 11 Vol 14 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.”

The defense counsel, Barr J. D. Olaniyan argued that the Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case noting the charges leveled against his clients.

He, thereby, prayed the Court to remand the suspects at Agodi Correctional Centre, pending the time that the case would be assigned to a competent court of law for hearing.

He argues that their counsel’s families and relations would have access to them at Agodi Correctional Centre, Ibadan.

He argued further that the “Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain the case with the nature of the charges which ranges from attempted murder to armed robbery.

“I, therefore, pray the Court to remand them at Agodi Correctional Centre for accessibility and convenience.

“This will make it easier to their counsels to prepare their defense as well bail application.”

In his ruling, Magistrate, S.H. Adebisi said the Court lacks jurisdiction to hear the case noting the charges ranges from conspiracy, and armed robbery to attempted murder which is a capital offense.

He, therefore, ordered them to be remanded in prison and subsequently adjourned the case till 26th July 2023.

Families and relations who thronged the Court broke down in tears as they watched helplessly as suspects were been led to the NCS waiting van.

LADOJA MAY NOT BE PART OF ELEVATION OF IBADAN OBAS;CONSIDERING GOING TO COURT

The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, High Chief Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja may not be part of the 11 Ibadan High Chiefs recently elevated to become beaded crown Obas by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Recall that the Oyo State Governor had signed into law the State Chieftaincy system bill as amended by the Oyo State Legislature which gives the governor the sole power to decide who becomes what in Oyo traditional council.

A source very close to the former governor, Sen Rasidii Ladoja has hinted that the Otun Olubadan will distance himself from the coronation of the High Chiefs as beaded crown Obas.

‘Baba is presently in Cotonou. He has not made his position known on this new development but I can tell you he will not be part of this comedy.

The last time I spoke with him about it. What he said was that he did not set out to become a lesser Oba when he began the journey. His dream is to become the Olubadan and nothing less”.

‘I think Baba will be available in Ibadan before sallah. He will surely make his position known. You know he doesn’t have the power to stop others from being crowned. But as for him,he will not be part of the coronation of High Chiefs. Baba has nothing against the elevation of those Baales to beaded crown Obas once due process is followed ‘,the source submitted

The source went further to state that the former Governor may likely approach the court to challenge the decision of the government on this development.

Nigeria’s total public debt may hit N81.64tn

Nigeria’s total public debt may hit N81.64tn this year,

The figure was arrived at based on the 2022 Debt Sustainability Analysis Report by Debt Management Office.

According to the debt office, the increase in total public debt-to-GDP to 37.1 per cent in 2023 from 23.4 per cent as of September 2022 was due to the inclusion of an estimated N8.8tn 2023 debt, the government’s Ways and Means debt of over N23tn, and an estimated Promissory Notes issuance of N2.87tn in the debt stock.

As of December 2022, Nigeria’s total public debt was N46.25tn, which means they might be an increase of 76.52 per cent this year.

In the report, the DMO warned that the Federal Government’s projected revenue of N10tn for 2023 cannot support fresh borrowings.

According to the office, the projected government’s debt service-to-revenue ratio of 73.5 per cent for 2023 is high and a threat to debt sustainability. It noted that the government’s current revenue profile cannot support higher levels of borrowing.

In a report titled, ‘Report of the Annual National Market Access Country (MAC) Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA),’ the debt office said, “The projected FGN Debt Service-to-Revenue ratio at 73.5 per cent for 2023 is high and a threat to debt sustainability.
