Awe-inspiring Makinde: A Leader of Unmatched Grandeur

Not too long ago, as I was preparing for a speaking engagement in Abeokuta, where I addressed a group of young visionary and dedicated minds, , I revisited my notes on the intersection of mind and politics, drawing from my extensive research on the subject across various regions of our nation.

As I sifted through my notes, I was struck by the relevance of certain insights that had emerged during my initial research for an article I penned on July 18, 2022, titled 'Seyi Makinde: An Extraordinary Being in Oyo State.' Suddenly, a moment of clarity dawned on me..

Governor Seyi Makinde's leadership approach, as described in that year 2022 article by Bashorun Saintabey, is characterized by a thoughtful and prudent approach to governance, ensuring that the well-being of the people of Oyo State remains a top priority.

As I delved into my notes, I was thrilled to discover that Governor Seyi Makinde's approach to governance is rooted in his passion for statistics, data, logic, and science. This evidence-based approach has been instrumental in driving his administration's successes, from economic growth to investments in education and healthcare.

However, as someone with a deep appreciation for history, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. This feeling arose as I prepared to share new thoughts and ideas with a broader audience, sparking a reflection on the potential implications of Governor Makinde's policies on the state's future.

It's worth noting that Governor Makinde's leadership style has been described as a unique blend of visionary thinking, empathy, and pragmatism. His commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance has earned him a reputation as a standout leader in Nigeria's political landscape.

Governor Makinde's leadership style is characterized by his ability to put the art of wise thought into prudent action. His commitment to the well-being of the people has made a real impact, changing lives and turning the vision of the masses into realities. Makinde's leadership is built on the principles of compassion, empathy, and inclusivity. He has demonstrated a unique ability to connect with the people, understand their needs, and provide solutions that address their concerns.

Makinde's ability to defy expectations has also been evident in his approach to governance. He has consistently demonstrated a commitment to transparency and accountability, and his administration has implemented numerous measures aimed at promoting openness and accountability in government.  One of the key aspects of Makinde's leadership style is his willingness to listen and learn. He has established a feedback mechanism that allows citizens to provide input on government policies and programs. This move has helped to build trust between the government and the people, and has ensured that the needs and concerns of citizens are taken into account in the decision-making process.

Governor Makinde has been working tirelessly to promote peace and stability in Oyo State. His administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at fostering harmony among different communities and promoting economic development. For instance, the governor has ensured that a peace and security committee meeting is monthly in all 33 local governments of the state which brings together stakeholders from different sectors to address security concerns and promote peaceful coexistence.

The peace and security committee has been instrumental in reducing conflicts and promoting harmony among different communities in the state. The committee has also helped to address issues related to land disputes, boundary conflicts, and other security concerns that have been a source of tension in the past.

Makinde's commitment to transparency and accountability has been noteworthy. His administration has implemented various measures aimed at promoting openness and accountability in government. For instance, the governor has established a transparency and accountability agency, Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) which focuses on combating corruption across all government parastatals, ministries, and departments within Oyo State.

The transparency and accountability agency has helped to build trust between the government and the people, and has ensured that citizens have access to information that they need to make informed decisions. The agency has also helped to reduce corruption and promote accountability in government.

Governor Makinde has been working tirelessly to promote economic development in Oyo State. His administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at attracting investors, promoting entrepreneurship, and creating jobs.

His vision for the future of Oyo State is built on the principles of sustainability, inclusivity, and prosperity. He has outlined a comprehensive development plan that aims to transform the state into a hub of economic growth and development.

The development plan is built on five key pillars: education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. The plan aims to promote education and skills development, improve healthcare outcomes, upgrade infrastructure, promote agricultural development, and support entrepreneurship and innovation.

Recently, Governor Seyi Makinde successfully hosted President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, showcasing his ability to attract high-profile leaders to his state. During his visit, President Bio emphasized the need for strategic partnerships among African countries to transform the continent's food system. He advocated for collaborations that would break down barriers and accelerate solutions for a world-class food system in Africa.

President Bio's visit was part of his efforts to mobilize expertise, innovation, and resources to build a sustainable food system in Sierra Leone. His flagship initiative, the Feed Salone Initiative, aims to revolutionize agriculture in Sierra Leone, and Governor Makinde commended him for his strong leadership and vision in championing agricultural transformation. The visit was a significant achievement for Governor Makinde, with citizens taking notice of his ability to bring international leaders to Oyo State. The event highlighted Governor Makinde's commitment to promoting economic development and improving the lives of his constituents.

A tour around Oyo State's capital and other towns will reveal the impressive strides Governor Seyi Makinde has made in attracting investors to the state. From infrastructure development to economic growth, Makinde's efforts have transformed Oyo State into a hub for business and investment.

Governor Makinde has demonstrated exceptional leadership in Nigeria by excelling in all 15 key areas of focus, including economic development, security, anti-corruption, education, healthcare, infrastructure, power, agriculture, environmental sustainability, good governance, national unity, technology, foreign policy, youth empowerment, social welfare, and human rights. His remarkable achievements in these key areas serve as a compelling endorsement of his preparedness to take on higher national responsibilities.

Governor Makinde's leadership has been a game-changer for Oyo State. His commitment to peace, transparency, accountability, economic development, and his vision for the future of the state have made a real impact, changing lives and turning the vision of the masses into realities.

As Oyo State continues to evolve and grow, it's clear that Makinde's legacy will be remembered for generations to come. His leadership has demonstrated that with vision, determination, and a commitment to the well-being of the people, anything is possible.

The Oyo State Government has approved a ₦4.5 billion financial relief package for victims and survivors of the tragic Bodija explosion, which occurred on January 16, 2024. The decision was reached during the State Executive Council meeting held at the Governor’s Office on Wednesday.

The explosion, caused by the illegal storage of water gel-type explosives allegedly kept by a Malian national, Mahmoud Camara, led to the death of five individuals and injured 78 others. It also caused significant destruction to 58 houses, 16 business premises, several places of worship, three schools, and parts of the University College Hospital (UCH).

According to a statement gathered by Tumite News, the approved ₦4.5 billion fund is intended to provide financial support to affected residents and institutions, as part of the state government’s commitment to rebuilding lives and infrastructure in the wake of the disaster.

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier constituted a 10-member committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, to coordinate the distribution of the relief funds and ensure transparency and fairness in the disbursement process.

In addition to the newly approved funds, the state government has already spent over ₦200 million on emergency relief efforts. These include temporary shelter for displaced persons, medical treatment for victims, and enhanced security measures in the affected area.

Governor Makinde emphasized that the administration remains dedicated to the welfare of its citizens. “Our people deserve all the support we can give, and this relief fund is one step in the long road to recovery,” he said.

Oyo Assembly seeks more security measures in Hotels, Restaurants, and Guest Houses across the State

.....moves for consideration of Amendment to Oyo State Hospitality and Tourism Law 2020.
The Oyo State House of Assembly at its Plenary today urged the Executive Arm of Government to implement a standardised guest registration process that includes valid identification verification and the maintenance of up - to - date guest logs accessible to authorised personnel into hotels and guesthouses across the State.

This was part of resolves on a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Oluyole State constituency, Hon. Waheed Akintayo , Co- sponsored by Hon. Rasak Mabaje and Hon. Mrs. Olubisi Michael of Ido and Ogbomosho North State constituency, respectively.

Presenting the motion at the Plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House,  Hon. Abiodun Fadeyi,  the mover of the motion, revealed that  hotels are increasingly being used by fraudsters,  commonly known as "Yahoo Boys," who conduct cybercrime and  sextortion schemes within the establishment.

"Investigation has shown that some fraudsters deliberately reside in hotels for extended periods to operate undetected."

"These criminals exploit the anonymity of hotels, where poor guest registration and monitoring system allow them to evade law enforcement."

Hon. Akintayo noted that the significant number of hotels and guest houses in Ibadan and across Oyo State are not duly registered with the Government despite the rapid expansion of the hospitality sector.

He added that the lack of adequate registration makes it difficult for regulatory agencies to track establishment in operation,  enforce security standards , and ensure  compliance with necessary regulations.

"Mandatory registration and periodic renewal will enable the Government to monitor these businesses effectively and enforce security measures where needed." The motion stated

The House has however directed its Standing Committee on Security and Strategies and its counterpart from Culture and Tourism to engage all  relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism,  the Oyo State Hotels Owners Association and deliberate on the measures to put in place in curbing the menace of insecurity in Hotels and Guest Houses across the State.

"ASIWAJU Oluyole Unshaken as Qudus Omoola Calls Out Critics for Peddling False Narratives"

"ASIWAJU Oluyole Unshaken as Qudus Omoola Calls Out Critics for Peddling False Narratives"

In a fresh but desperate attempt to divert attention from the steady progress in Oluyole Local Government, a group of unnamed individuals has launched an unfounded smear campaign against the Executive Chairman, ASIWAJU Engr Akeem Olatunji.

These detractors clearly uncomfortable with the rising profile of the Chairman have taken to social media, spreading baseless allegations in a futile attempt to tarnish his image. But no false allegation can shake the confidence of the good people of Oluyole, whose daily realities reflect the development taking place under his leadership. The transformation is tangible, undeniable, and deeply felt across communities.

Reacting to these developments, Qudus, popularly known as Omoola, the Special Assistant on Media to the Executive Chairman, released a firm statement denouncing the actions of the unnamed individuals.

“What we are witnessing is nothing but attention-seeking. These individuals are uncomfortable with the Chairman’s success and would rather throw mud than face facts. No amount of blackmail or digital noise can derail Engineer Akeem Olatunji’s mission is to serve the good people of Oluyole,” Omoola stated.

Omoola emphasized that while these online distractors hide behind anonymity, the results of the Chairman’s leadership are visible and undeniable from Skill acquisition, infrastructure development to community empowerment programs.

“It is unfortunate that instead of joining hands to support progress, some individuals would rather hide under fake identities to create confusion. But the good people of Oluyole are wiser. They know the truth. The development projects, improved local governance, and inclusive policies speak for themselves.”

He also added a direct message to those behind the attacks:

“We invite anyone with genuine ideas or contributions to come forward. Criticism is welcome when it is constructive. But hiding under the cloak of falsehood is not politics, it’s desperation. Engineer Akeem Olatunji is focused, undistracted, and committed to delivering on his mandate.”

As Oluyole continues to experience steady development under the current administration, it is becoming increasingly clear that distractions from a few discontented voices will not hold back the wheel of progress.

Once again, the people can see through the noise and the truth, as always, remains unshaken.

“Tell Seyi He Is Not From This Planet”: My Unexpected Encounter With a Pensioner - Hon. Deji Ola

What was meant to be a brief errand turned into one of the most memorable conversations of my week.

It was a quiet Sunday evening. I had stopped by a popular filling station along Old Ife Road to buy fuel and make a quick payment using my ATM card. To my dismay, the transaction failed — not once, but three times — and each time, my account was debited. As frustrating as it was, I managed to keep my cool. My years as a banker had taught me how to deal with agitated customers; now I was simply living the other side of that experience.

The next morning, on my way to the office, I stopped at the bank to log a dispense error complaint and request a reversal. That was when I discovered the real issue: my ATM card was damaged. I decided to handle both complaints and card replacement in one visit.

As I waited at the customer service desk, an elderly man walked in. Though clearly aged, he moved with remarkable energy. He had come to check his account balance. I gestured to the staff to please attend to him before continuing with my own request.

The moment the teller confirmed his balance, the man burst into spontaneous praise and prayers — not for the bank or its staff, but for Governor Seyi Makinde. “God bless Governor Seyi Makinde,” he proclaimed loudly, dancing in joy. His energy was contagious, his gratitude unmistakable.

As a trained banker, I was used to keeping a low profile, especially inside banking halls. But curiosity got the better of me. A staff member, who knew where I worked, whispered to the old man that I was “omo Seyi” — someone who works closely with the governor. That single revelation changed everything.

The old man turned to me, his eyes lighting up. What followed was an impromptu testimony session. He told me that he and his family never end a prayer session without mentioning Governor Makinde. He spoke of the timely payment of his pension, his daughter and son-in-law’s salaries, and how their lives had become stable because of the governor’s policies. He spoke like someone who had been given a new lease on life.

He then dived into a passionate account of the governor’s achievements: from massive infrastructure projects to employment and empowerment programs. His voice trembled not out of weakness, but out of conviction. “Nobody who truly loves this state,” he said, “would want us to go backward. We must follow through on his succession plan.”

What struck me most was his concern for the future. “I worry,” he said quietly. “What happens when his time is up? Who will continue this legacy? We can’t afford to return to the days of unpaid salaries and neglect.”

I assured him that Governor Makinde’s vision was not just for now. I spoke to him about Omituntun 3.0 — the roadmap for sustainable development in Oyo State beyond 2027. It seemed to calm him a bit, but he wasn’t done.

As I made to leave, he held my hand firmly and said something that still rings in my ears:

“Tell your principal — he is not from this planet. He must give us someone who will uphold his standards.”

And just like that, a random stop at the bank became a heartfelt reminder of leadership’s impact — not in policies alone, but in the lives of people who once felt forgotten.

Deji Ola is my name, i am a proud product of good governance.

ONA ARA LG ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS DEMOLISH ILLEGAL STRUCTURES AT ARIYO RIVER BANKS, AKANRAN.

A team of Environmental Health Officers from Ona Ara Local Government has carried out the demolition of illegal structures erected along the banks of the Ariyo River at Ariyo Junction, Akanran, Ibadan. The exercise was led by the Acting Head of Local Government Administration, Sanitarian (Mrs.) Rashidat Popoola; the Acting Director of Environmental Health Services, Inukan LCDA, Sanitarian (Mrs.) Layinka Olubunmi; and Sanitarian Jimoh Sikiru. The Honourable Supervisor for Environment and officers of the Amotekun security outfit from the Akanran Division monitored the operation.
Prior to the demolition, the illegal occupants were served with abatement notices instructing them to vacate the area. However, their failure to comply necessitated the enforcement action. This clearance is part of the preparatory measures for the construction of the new Ariyo Bridge, a strategic infrastructure project aimed at curbing the recurrent flooding that has long plagued the area.

To ensure transparency and community cooperation, the Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Temitope Kolapo Glorious, and the Political Head of Inukan LCDA, Hon. Windapo, held engagements with local stakeholders to gain their support before proceeding.
Structures built along riverbanks not only violate environmental regulations but also contribute to severe risks such as flooding, erosion, and damage to both the environment and human lives. In line with the Oyo State Environmental Sanitation Edicts of 2013, such developments are deemed unlawful, and the government remains committed to enforcing the laws to safeguard public health, safety, and the ecosystem.
