"Hosanna to the King: Celebrating Palm Sunday and Lent Day 40"

"Hosanna to the King: Celebrating Palm Sunday and Lent Day 40"
As we commemorate Palm Sunday, marking Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, we reflect on the significance of this event in the Christian faith. According to John 12:13, "The crowd took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel!'".

Today, we join millions of Christians worldwide in celebrating this pivotal moment, acknowledging Jesus as our Savior and King. As we wave palm branches, we remember the crowds that welcomed Jesus with royal enthusiasm, laying down palms and branches before Him.

As we enter the final stretch of Lent, we are reminded of the selfless love Jesus showed by laying down His life for us. May this Palm Sunday be a time for reflection, renewal, and recommitment to our faith. May the palm branches symbolize victory, peace, and salvation, inspiring us to follow Jesus' example of humility and obedience.

As we mark the 40th day of Lent, let us reflect on our spiritual journey, seeking forgiveness, and striving for spiritual growth. May this season of reflection and preparation bring us closer to God and to each other.

We extend warm greetings to our friends, family, and fellow Christians as we celebrate Palm Sunday. May the joy and peace of the Lord be with you during this Holy Week and beyond.

OYO LAWMAKER, HON.BABALOLA ABIODUN CHARGED THE OYO EXECUTIVE TO STRENGTHEN CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING AND PREVENTION MEASURES TO REDUCE MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY AMONG WOMEN IN OYO STATE

OYO LAWMAKER, HON.BABALOLA ABIODUN CHARGED THE OYO EXECUTIVE TO STRENGTHEN CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING AND PREVENTION MEASURES TO REDUCE MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY AMONG WOMEN IN OYO STATE

The cervical cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women globally, despite being largely preventable through early detection and treatment. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 99.8% of cervical cancer cases can be prevented through regular screening and vaccination. However, Nigeria accounts for a significant portion of global cervical cancer cases, with thousands of women losing their lives annually due to late diagnosis, limited screening access, and inadequate awareness.

While Oyo State has made commendable strides in healthcare, the government must do more to integrate cervical cancer prevention into its health agenda. Research findings indicate that awareness of cervical cancer and screening uptake among women in the state remain critically low, with misconceptions and socio-cultural barriers further discouraging early testing. A study conducted in Oyo State by Owolabi and Jegede, (2023) revealed that only 38% of women are aware of cervical cancer, and just 49.3% recognize its symptoms.

The absence of a well-coordinated, properly funded cervical cancer screening program in Oyo State has left many women vulnerable to a disease that could be detected and treated early. In addition, financial constraints has continued to make screening inaccessible to low-income women, which further increases their risk of late-stage diagnosis and death.

Many families are thrown into hardship when women, who are often the primary caregivers, succumb to preventable diseases. The financial toll of late-stage cancer treatment far outweighs the cost of preventive screening. It is therefore, imperative for the state to act decisively in scaling up screening services.

House Resolves to urge:

1. The Executive Arm of Government, through the Ministry of Health, Primary Health Care Board and Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA), to:

a. Develop a comprehensive cervical cancer screening program that ensures access to free or subsidized screening for women across all Local government areas (LGAs) in the state;

b. Establish more screening centers in rural and remote areas to eliminate geographic barriers to early detection;

c. Embark on aggressive public awareness campaigns in collaboration with community leaders, religious organizations, and local associations to educate women about cervical cancer, its symptoms, and the importance of screening; and

d. Form partnership with non-governmental organizations, private healthcare providers, and international health agencies to mobilize resources and technical expertise for sustainable cervical cancer prevention initiatives.

Oyo State Government Releases ₦319 Million in Compensation for Road Project Victims

Oyo State Government Releases ₦319 Million in Compensation for Road Project Victims

The Oyo State Government has taken a significant step to address the concerns of individuals affected by the Ajia Junction and Senator Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road projects. A total of ₦319 million has been released as compensation for victims of the projects.

This information was made known today, April 10, 2025, when the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo hosted the beneficiaries at the Ministry conference hall, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Compensation Breakdown

- Ajia Junction Expansion: 16 individuals received ₦55 million as first-batch payment for their affected lands or properties.

- Senator Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road: 97 individuals will receive ₦264 million as first-batch payment for their affected lands or properties.

Mr. Salawu Abiola, Mrs. Agboola, and Alh. Abiola Alarape, representing the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for this gesture. They appreciated the governor's efforts, despite initially not expecting compensation from the government.

The Senator Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road project is a comprehensive infrastructure development designed to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion. The project consists of four segments: Lagos-Ibadan to Ife-Ibadan, Ife-Ibadan to Ilorin-Ibadan, Ilorin-Ibadan to Abeokuta-Ibadan, and Abeokuta-Ibadan back to Lagos-Ibadan expressway. By constructing a circular road that connects major highways, the project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity between major cities in Oyo State and neighboring states, ultimately promoting economic growth and development in the region.

Recall that in October 2023, the Oyo State Government compensated a business owner along the Ajia-Egbeda road with over ₦100 million for their demolished property. This demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing the impact of infrastructure development projects on local communities.

To ensure transparency in the compensation process, Governor Makinde has earlier established a monitoring team to verify and supervise the distribution of compensation for landowners affected by the Senator Adewolu Ladoja Circular Road project.

How Makinde's Security Strategy Fuels Business Growth, Job Creation in Oyo State

How Makinde's Security Strategy Fuels Business Growth, Job Creation in Oyo State

By Adedoja Afees Ekolo, member GSM Advocates
Governor Seyi Makinde's security strategy has been a game-changer for Oyo State, fostering a conducive environment for business growth and job creation. By prioritizing the safety of citizens, Makinde's administration has attracted investors, boosted economic development, and improved the overall quality of life for residents. The Oyo State government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has reported significant economic growth and job creation in the state, attributed to its effective security strategy.

Security plays a crucial role in economic development by ensuring the safety of lives and properties while creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has made security a key priority, recognizing its direct impact on infrastructure development, trade, investment, and governance. Under his leadership, various security initiatives have been implemented to boost economic growth and attract investors. This article examines how effective security in Oyo State is fostering economic progress through infrastructure development, trade and investment promotion, and good Governance.

Infrastructure development is vital for economic growth, but it can only be sustained in a secure environment. Recognizing this, the Makinde administration has heavily invested in security to support ongoing infrastructural projects across the state.

In 2025, Oyo State proposed a ₦678.86 billion budget, with a significant portion dedicated to capital projects that enhance security and economic stability. Some of the major infrastructure projects include:

The rehabilitation of Saki-Ogbooro-Igboho Road, the reconstruction of the Airport-Ajia-New Ife Express Road, and improvements to other key highways are aimed at boosting connectivity while reducing security risks in remote areas, also to curb night-time crime and enhance safety, the government launched the Light-Up Oyo Project, a streetlight installation initiative across major roads and business districts.

The ongoing mega-project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve logistics efficiency, and make business operations smoother for investors and traders. These projects not only facilitate business operations but also reduce crime by improving surveillance and law enforcement response times. By securing infrastructure, Oyo State ensures long-term economic benefits and positions itself as an attractive destination for investors.

Trade and investment thrive in environments where businesses feel protected and assured of their sustainability. Under the current administration, Oyo State has focused on improving security to encourage business growth and attract foreign and local investors.

To showcase its economic potential, Oyo State is set to host EXPOYO 2025, an international trade fair themed "Achieving Food Security and Economic Stability Through Massive Investment in Agriculture." This event aims to:
Provide a platform for local businesses to connect with global investors, Promote Oyo State as a business-friendly environment, Encourage investment in agriculture, a sector that requires stability and security to flourish.

As a leading agricultural hub, Oyo State has prioritized security to protect farmers, traders, and agribusiness investors from threats such as farm theft and clashes between herders and farmers. Through improved security measures, the government aims to Prevent disruptions in food supply chains, Encourage agribusiness expansion, leading to more employment opportunities, Boost export potential for cash crops and livestock products.

Apart from Job created by His administration such as 14,000 teachers employed through Tescom and SUBEB, with 7,000 teachers recruited in 2020 and an additional 7,500 teachers recently employed, 500 health workers hired, with 375 personnel employed by the State Hospital Management Board, including medical doctors, nurses, and specialists, 1,500 local government workers appointed, with ad-hoc staff converted to permanent positions.

This reflects the economic impacts of his administration's job creation efforts which has contributed to a significant decline in Oyo State's unemployment rate, which currently stands at 2.0%, surpassing the FCT's rate of 18.7% as of September 26, 2024. This achievement positions Oyo State as a leader in employment creation

Other notable achievements on job creation are Youth Entrepreneurs in Agribusiness Programme, introduced to empower Oyo State youth in agribusiness, with training at CSS Integrated Farms in Nasarawa State, Civil Service Commission Recruitment*: 791 staff employed, with a focus on merit-based recruitment and inclusivity,1,800 workers pardoned, reinstated, or promoted under the Seyi Makinde administration.

In a move to further attract investors, the Makinde administration approved the Business-Enabling Reforms Action Plan in 2025. This plan focuses on: Enhancing transparency and accountability to build investor trust, Reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks that discourage business registrations and expansion, Strengthening security policies to ensure that businesses operate without fear of crime or harassment.

With these strategies, Oyo State is positioning itself as one of Nigeria’s most secure and investment-friendly states.

Security is not just about deploying law enforcement—it requires strategic governance and accountability. The Oyo State government has taken bold steps to ensure security policies are effectively implemented. According to recent statistics, the state's security initiatives have led to a notable increase in investment inflows,
The Fasola agribusiness hub, developed by the state government, is expected to create 1,500 direct and indirect jobs, while supporting 7,000 smallholder farmers. Other industries, such as sugarcane processing and ginger production, are also emerging.

The Makinde administration has invested in equipping security agencies with the necessary tools and logistics to combat crime effectively. These measures include: Acquisition of patrol vehicles and surveillance drones for crime monitoring, Increased police presence in high-risk areas such as markets, highways, and business districts, Expansion of the Amotekun Corps, the regional security outfit, to enhance grassroots security operations.

To improve intelligence gathering and community-based security efforts, the government has integrated local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and community leaders into the security framework. This approach fosters trust between security agencies and the public, ensuring proactive crime prevention.

Governor Makinde has also urged the Nigerian military to intensify efforts in tackling terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Recognizing that Oyo State’s security cannot be addressed in isolation, he advocates for regional security collaboration with neighboring states to curb cross-border criminal activities.

Effective security is a fundamental pillar of economic growth, and Oyo State has made significant strides in leveraging security to drive development. Through strategic infrastructure investments, business-friendly reforms, and strengthened governance, the Makinde administration is fostering an environment where businesses can thrive, trade can flourish, and investments can multiply.

Makinde's administration is exploring opportunities in technology and innovation, aiming to diversify the economy and drive growth. The state's security initiatives include enhanced support for security agencies, strategic road construction, and the development of agribusiness industrial hubs.

The ongoing security initiatives, infrastructural projects, and trade facilitation efforts are positioning Oyo as a leading economic hub in Nigeria. For long-term success, continued collaboration between the government, security agencies, businesses, and local communities remains essential. WE REMOVED FCT FROM THE TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT TO SPEED UP DEVELOPMENT – PRESIDENT TINUBU

WE REMOVED FCT FROM THE TREASURY SINGLE ACCOUNT TO SPEED UP DEVELOPMENT – PRESIDENT TINUBU

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu explained on Sunday in Abuja that his administration removed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to expedite development and enhance resident participation in governance.
.
The President, who received FCT residents at the Presidential Villa for Sallah homage, said the bureaucracy associated with the TSA was hampering infrastructure growth in the capital city and had to be reviewed for impact and progress.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, led the residents during the homage.

President Tinubu highlighted that freeing the FCT from TSA restrictions has swiftly catalysed infrastructure improvements, enhanced healthcare services, and increased security measures.

"I remember the day that the FCT Minister came to meet me, and he said, please take us out of the problem of the TSA so that I can do more work and achieve more. I said show me what you are about to do, and he presented his thinking and belief.

"And everything started changing rapidly. I started seeing the opening up of the rural areas by the FCT, the resuscitation of abandoned projects, and the completion of the Vice President's official residence that was abandoned for years. The FCT rehabilitated health care centres, upgraded facilities for school children, and provided furniture.

President Tinubu thanked the FCT Minister for proving that liberation from the bureaucracy was necessary and for restructuring the FCT public service so that civil servants could aspire to higher positions and provide leadership.

"We wouldn't have been able to open our mouths to celebrate if not because of the progressive ideas you brought to FCT. We can now celebrate the innovative ideas brought to the FCT," President Tinubu said.

President Tinubu encouraged FCT residents and other Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious colourations in their leadership choices and focus more on results.

"Today, we live in peace, and security is improving. Hunger is coming down. Food prices are lowering. We can go to the market and do business. And our diversity and belief in ourselves are becoming stronger.

"We are not looking for magic. We are looking for results. We are looking for comfort. We are praying for good health. We are looking for someone who cares," the President noted.

"The job is not just about Wike or me, but everyone. Nyesom Wike is proving the diversity of Nigeria. He strengthened that diversity to develop prosperity, showing us that we are all members of one family, living together in the same house, in different rooms, and under one roof," the President said.

President Tinubu urged more tolerance, broadmindedness and patriotism.
"All I appeal for is tolerance, which has brought us this far. We have learnt some lessons from Ramadan. May the lessons continue to be with us," he said.

The FCT minister thanked the President for hosting the residents in the State House.

"This visit marks a historic moment as it is the first time the FCT residents can extend our greetings and best wishes to you in person during this blessed period. We are genuinely delighted to be here".

Wike pledged his loyalty to the President and committed himself to developing the capital city, assuring that the FCT would soon complete many projects.

"Despite our varied backgrounds, we are united in our unwavering support for your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda," he added.

The Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, attended the ceremony.

The FCT delegation included members of the National Assembly, judiciary, religious and traditional leaders, security chiefs and women and youth groups.

The Oyo State Government has announced plans to commence the 2025 agricultural loan scheme with a single-digit interest rate for farmers.

The Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), Sheik Taofeek Akeugbagold, disclosed this through a press statement in Ibadan, stating that preparations are underway for loan disbursement to enhance farmers’ productivity.
