3SC deny match fixing allegation

3SC deny match fixing allegations

Demand proofs from presenter
The attention of the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), has been drawn to a sports programme aired on an Ibadan-based radio station, in which the presenter levelled allegations of match fixing against our players.

"We are therefore, compelled to react swiftly to these baseless, barbaric and unfounded allegations.

"We totally frowned on the unprofessional outburst of the presenter, making references to the matches, our players as well as other individuals, who he mentioned as culprits.

"We want to state clearly that nobody from the club granted interview on the radio station and we therefore, wonder how the presenter came up with his reports that our Chairman, Honourable Babatunde Olaniyan 'Akoro' offered match officials money during some of our games.

"The presenter did say that we were forced to a 2-2 draw by Katsina United, claiming that we deliberately surrendered a two-goal lead.

"In the first instance, our game against Katsina United ended in a 1-0 victory in favour of Katsina United and not 2-2 as the presenter claimed during the programme.

"He did mention that we sold out our matches against Lobi Star, and Remo Stars in Ibadan, an utterance that downplays the efforts of the league champion, a team that was solid from the beginning of the season till the end.

He further stated that a referee also confided in him that our players were involved in match sell out.

"We wish to declare emphatically that all these are mere allegations and the figment of the presenter's imagination.

"In view of this development, we hereby demand concrete evidence from the presenter to back up his claims; failure in which we will not hesitate to take a legal action against him and the radio station.

"While we are sad about the setback we have experienced so far this season, with apologies to our teeming supporters and fans, we want to assure them that we will never indulge in any act that can tarnish the image of the club, or that can bring the game into disrepute.

"We owe our financier and our backers the duty to finish strong in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), as the season winds down. We will surely strive to achieve the best result in every game, while looking forward to a more rewarding season ahead.

Makinde: Champion of Workers' Rights, Pensioners' Relief

Makinde: Champion of Workers' Rights, Pensioners' Relief
By Ifeoluwa Ayodele Ogunlola, Member, GSM Advocate
In the landscape of Nigerian governance, few leaders have earned the unwavering admiration of the workforce and pensioners quite like His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, the Executive Governor of Oyo State. Fondly called the Workers’ Governor and affectionately referred to as the Beloved Son of Pensioners, Governor Makinde has become a symbol of responsive leadership and social justice in the Pace Setter State.

According to the Chairmen of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Oyo State, workers endured years of hardship before the emergence of Governor Makinde. They recounted the struggles of irregular salaries, unpaid allowances, and lack of governmental empathy. However, since assuming office, Engr. Seyi Makinde has reversed the tide, bringing relief and dignity back to the civil service.

In response to the current economic hardship affecting Nigerians, Governor Makinde has implemented several pro-worker policies that stand out even at the national level. These include:

Free Transit for Workers: Recognizing the burden of rising transportation costs, the governor introduced a free transit scheme for workers in the state. This single act has significantly eased commuting challenges for civil servants, improving both morale and productivity.

Palliative Wage Awards: To cushion the effects of inflation and economic difficulty, workers in Oyo State have been receiving palliative wage awards. These payments have provided essential relief for families struggling with rising living costs.

Implementation of N80,000 Minimum Wage: In a landmark move that sets a new standard across Nigeria, Governor Makinde commenced the payment of an increased minimum wage of Eighty Thousand Naira (₦80,000) to workers since January 2025. This visionary step underscores his administration’s commitment to workers' welfare and economic empowerment.

The pensioners of Oyo State have also not been left behind. Baba Abatan, a respected elder and leader among pensioners, passionately eulogized Governor Makinde for his unprecedented efforts in addressing their long-neglected plights. Under his administration, pensioners have not only witnessed an increase in their monthly allowances but have also received full payment of all arrears owed by previous governments.

"As of April 2025, the Oyo State Pension Board has 22,212 pensioners on its payroll. To address outstanding arrears, Governor Seyi Makinde's administration is committing N60 million monthly to pensioners. This administration prioritizes pensioners' welfare, ensuring consistent disbursement of pensions on or before the 25th of each month, alongside timely salary payments for active workers."

These remarkable achievements are a testament to Governor Seyi Makinde’s genuine compassion, visionary leadership, and dedication to building a better Oyo State. His administration has not only restored hope but has created a conducive environment where workers and retirees are valued and respected.

Indeed, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE has redefined leadership in Oyo State, proving that governance can be humane, effective, and people-centered. His legacy will be remembered as one that prioritized the dignity of labor and upheld the welfare of every citizen.

CBEX resumes operations despite SEC ban, N1.2tn EFCC probe.

Despite the alleged N1.2tn digital trading fraud that reportedly affected over 600,000 Nigerians, the embattled Crypto Bridge Exchange trading platform, accused of these acts, has resumed operations, announcing fresh withdrawal options in a move to restore investor confidence.

Two traders on the CBEX platform confirmed to The PUNCH on Wednesday that the digital trading firm has quietly resumed operations, allowing new users to register, trade, and withdraw profits, despite ongoing investigations by regulatory agencies.

According to the sources, an insurance verification process and an external audit of the company’s financial records are currently underway to ascertain the actual amount lost in the scheme, which collapsed in April.

They added that existing investors, many of whom have been unable to access their funds for weeks, will be able to take out their funds starting from June 25, 2025, when the audit is expected to be concluded by an insurance firm based in the United Kingdom.

This development comes barely weeks after the Securities and Exchange Commission declared the platform illegal, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission confirmed an ongoing investigation into the firm’s operations.

CBEX, a digital investment platform, offered investors 100 per cent profit after 30 days of purported AI trading. The trading platform started operations in 2024 after receiving registration approval from the Corporate Affairs Commission on September 25, 2024, and the EFCC’s Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering on January 16, 2025.

No fewer than 600,000 Nigerians reportedly invested in the scheme and lost N1.2tn after it collapsed on April 14, 2025.

Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo on Tuesday convicted controversial singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, and sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment.

Tribune Online recalls that the singer was arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Ifo in April 2023 on a three-count charge bordering on assault and the theft of musical instruments, as stated in charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.

The singer was subsequently granted bail in the sum of N300,000, with two sureties from his immediate family.

It was reported that he appeared before the court last Thursday and was later remanded for failing to appear at previous hearings despite multiple adjournments.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, had earlier informed the court that the defendant, Habeeb Okikiola, committed the offence on 18 November 2022 at approximately 11:00 hrs in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.

The charge sheet reads:
“That you, Badmus Habeeb Okikiola, aka Portable, and others now at large, on the 18th day of November 2022 at 11:00 hrs, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: assault, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State 2006.

In his judgement, Chief Magistrate Ilo ruled that the singer was guilty of counts 1 and 2.

He sentenced the defendant to one month’s imprisonment with an option of a N10,000 fine for Count 1 and two months’ imprisonment with an option of a N20,000 fine for Count 2.

PDP moves to remove Gov Oborevwori from office for defecting to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party has directed its national legal adviser to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim the party’s mandate from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for defecting to the All Progressives Congress.

Others whose mandates are also to be reclaimed are lawmakers and other elected officials who recently defected along with Mr Oborevwori to the ruling APC.

The party’s acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, made the announcement on Tuesday during a press briefing following the National Working Committee meeting held in Abuja.

Mr Damagum disclosed that the NWC had also mandated the Emmanuel Ogidi-led South-South zonal caretaker committee to assume control of the party structure in Delta, pending the constitution of a state caretaker committee.

Mr Oborevwori, former vice-presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa, and several elected PDP officials in Delta announced their defection to the APC on April 25.

“We have instructed the zonal caretaker committee to take charge of Delta after dissolving all existing structures, as most of their members have defected,” Mr Damagum stated. “A caretaker committee will be constituted shortly. We’ve also directed the National Legal Adviser to initiate legal steps to recover our mandates. According to the Electoral Act, any elected official who defects automatically relinquishes the office they occupy.”

Mr Damagum further announced that the NWC had approved zonal congresses for the South-West, North-East, and South-East regions.

He additionally announced that a caretaker committee had been approved for the North Central zone pending upcoming elections. He said the NWC deliberated on a wide range of internal party matters and adopted key recommendations made by the PDP Governors’ Forum at its recent meeting in Ibadan.

Among the resolutions adopted were the scheduling of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting for May 27 and the national convention from August 28 to 30, subject to NEC approval.

Speaking on the wave of defections, Damagum urged party members not to be discouraged.

“Yes, they (APC) may coerce or intimidate our members into defecting, but we are confident the Nigerian people will respond appropriately when the time comes. It has happened before, and it will happen again,” he said.

He dismissed claims of internal crisis within the NWC, stating, “There is no crisis. If someone wants an excuse to justify their betrayal, they might claim there is a crisis. But the PDP remains intact and will continue to thrive.”

Mr Damagum assured that preparations for the national convention to usher in new executives were underway and stressed the party’s resilience.

“We may face challenges, but we’ve always resolved them internally. No amount of intimidation or mischief can bring this party down. The PDP has survived many attempts in the past—this one is child’s play,” he added.

Mr Ogidi affirmed the zonal committee’s readiness to execute its assignment in Delta.

“I Started Paying Salaries at age 29” — Makinde Reveals Secrets to Prosperity at Oyo Youth Summit

The atmosphere was electric at the International Conference Center, University of Ibadan, as the Oyo State Youth Summit 2025 reached its climax with a powerful and revealing speech from the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engineer Seyi Makinde.

In a moment that gripped the audience, Governor Makinde shared a personal milestone that stunned many: “I started paying salaries at age 29,” he declared, drawing gasps and admiration from the hall filled with youths, dignitaries, and thought leaders.

But the Governor’s message went far beyond personal anecdotes. His core theme centered on unlocking economic prosperity — not just for individuals, but for the entire state.

“Prosperity will not come except we raise entrepreneurs, reduce illiteracy, and become productive,” he emphasized with conviction. “Oyo State will be a willing partner in unlocking these keys to economic transformation.”

Governor Makinde called on Nigerian youth to embrace entrepreneurship as the gateway to self-reliance and national development. He stressed that government alone cannot create all the jobs needed, but by fostering a spirit of innovation, the youth can create opportunities not just for themselves, but for others.

“We must reduce illiteracy,” he continued, “because knowledge is power. An enlightened population is the foundation of a thriving economy.”

He concluded his speech with a challenge to all young people: “Be productive. Time is your greatest asset. Don’t waste it. Create, build, and contribute. That is how we will all rise together.”

The summit ended with resounding applause and renewed hope among attendees, many of whom left inspired to become the entrepreneurs and change-makers the Governor envisions.
