The Guild of Directors (TGD) recently hosted a successful two-day annual event in Ibadan, bringing together industry professionals to celebrate the progress of film directing in Nigeria. Olumide Mide Moradayo, a notable member of the Guild, expressed his enthusiasm for this year’s program, highlighting the importance of staying proactive and focused on the growth of the profession.

Moradayo also recognized the significant contributions of Otunba Bolaji Amusa JP, the Global President of TAMPAN, for his continuous efforts to raise the standard of Nigerian cinema. He extended his appreciation to Ambassador Titi Jeje TGD Chairman, the host of this year’s event, and Yeye Bose Akinola, the Governor of TAMPAN in Oyo State, for their dedication to the industry.

The event, held on September 19 and 20, began with the TGD Interstate Film Competition at Viva Cinema inside ShopRite, Ring Road, Ibadan. Day 2 featured the TGD CPE (Continuous Professional Education) Program at the Wole Soyinka Theatre Hall, University of Ibadan, where industry professionals engaged in discussions on the latest trends and advancements in film direction. The event concluded with the Award and Cultural Night at Darnest Hotel, Adeyi Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, where industry achievers were celebrated for their exceptional contributions to film.

This annual event served as a vital platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and recognizing the continuous growth of Nigerian cinema.

Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe as the new Director-General of the China-Nigeria Strategic Partnership. Ibadan North Council Boss, Olufade Swears In Secretary, Oluwafemi Bantu And Assistant Secretaries Shodende, Olaniyi

In a ceremony held at the council office in Agodi, Ibadan, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, officially swore in the new Secretary and Assistant Secretaries of the local government.

Hon. Oladejo Oluwafemi Olayinka was sworn in as the Secretary of the local government and the political head of Irepodun LCDA.

Alongside him, Hon. Nojeem Adewale Shodende was sworn in as the Assistant Secretary of Aare Latosa LCDA, and Hon. Stephen Olaniyi as the Assistant Secretary of Irepodun LCDA.

In his speech, Chairman Olufade expressed his happiness and appreciation for the party leaders, local government staff, and members who attended the ceremony.

He emphasized that Ibadan North Local Government is the leading light of other local governments in Oyo State, stating, “We are the Pacesetter. And whatever we do in Ibadan North, we do it with love.”

He urged the newly appointed officials not to disappoint the local government reminding them that political appointments come with responsibilities different from elected positions. He advised them to stay focused on their duties and uphold the values of their political party.

Dr. GLORIOUS made this commendation during the official presentation and commissioning of a Mitsubishi L200 pickup van, procured by the state government, to Operation Burst in Ona Ara Local Government.

Speaking at the event, Dr. GLORIOUS highlighted Governor Makinde’s strategic investment in security infrastructure, describing the patrol van as a critical asset that will enhance the operational efficiency of Operation Burst in safeguarding lives and properties in the local government and beyond.

Emmanuel Alayande Varsity Expands Horizons: Governing Council Seeks Partnership with Oyo Ministry of Lands

The Emmanuel Alayande University of Education's Governing Council Sub-Committee recently paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development. Led by Chairman Mr. Kola Amole, the team commended Honorable Commissioner Mr. Williams Akin Funmilayo for his exceptional leadership while seeking assistance in securing additional land for the university's expansion.

The team also lauded Governor Seyi Makinde's administration for its tireless efforts in upgrading the institution from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education to a full-fledged university of education. This upgrade is a testament to the governor's commitment to improving education in Oyo State. Under his administration, the state has seen significant investments in education, including the construction of model schools, renovation of classroom blocks, and recruitment of teachers. The university, formerly Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, was upgraded to a university of education by Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde.

Commissioner Williams Akin Funmilayo expressed his connection to St. Andrew's College, Oyo, now known as Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, stating that his biography would be incomplete without mentioning it.

During the visit, Commissioner Williams Akin Funmilayo discussed land revocation in Oyo, citing cases where land allocated since 2008 remained undeveloped. "The ministry will offered discounted prices for students and lecturers interested in developing these lands" Mr. Williams stated.

On encroachment issues, Williams advised the university to survey its land and install perimeter fencing, acknowledging that the government faces similar challenges.

The Ministry's Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Foluke Adebiyi, emphasized the need for the university's expansion and urged the committee to formalize their request to the Ministry of Education.

Hon. (Mrs.) Orisadeyi, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters and member of the visiting team, praised Commissioner Williams for his reliability and commitment to honoring his promises.

Decisions Of FEC Meeting Chaired By President Tinubu

1. The meeting reviewed the flooding in some parts of the country, especially the one that destroyed almost 50 percent of Maiduguri in Borno state.

The meeting also backed the President’s idea of setting up a Disaster Relief Fund to be funded by a portion of the revenue accruing to the Federation account. Funds will also be solicited from the private sector.

2. The meeting resolved to set up a technical committee to conduct integrity tests on Alau Dam and other dams countrywide.

3. The Council also approved the Economic Stabilisation Bills, which embody the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy Reforms set up last year by President Tinubu. The bills seek to amend the income tax laws, promote the export of goods and services, reform the exchange rate regime and unlock foreign exchange liquidity. One of the bills offers tax relief to companies that generate incremental employment. Another offers personal income relief to people in private and public employment, from N200,000 to N400,000.

Another of the bills seeks Federal and state collaboration to suspend certain taxes on small businesses and vulnerable populations. The Economic Stabilisation Bills, with the Council’s approval, will now be transmitted to the National Assembly for passage.

4. The Council approved a contract to build a 258 km 3-lane carriageway with continuous reinforced concrete pavement in Kebbi and Sokoto states. The stretch is part of the 1000km superhighway from Illela, Sokoto State, to Badagry, Lagos State. 

5. The council approved the revised estimated contract cost for constructing Bodo-Bonny Road with bridges across the Opobo Channel in Rivers State. The contract was awarded in 2014 for N120 billion and revised in 2021 to N199, 923,638,963.87. The FEC approved another increase to N280 billion.

6. The council approved the rescoping and downward review of the contract to rehabilitate the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway at a lower cost of N740.79 billion to Julius Berger.

7. Messrs CCECC Nigeria Limited was awarded two road contracts, including bridges in Kogi and Cross River, at a total cost of N133.4 billion. They are the construction of Cross River to Oferekpe Road and the rehabilitation of Kabba (Kogi State), Iyamoye-Omuo-Ikole-Ifaki-Ado Ekiti Road.

8. Messrs BDT International Limited was awarded the contract to repair the Gamboru Bridge along Gamboru-Ngala-Kala, Balde Road in Borno State. The cost is N3.2 billion, and completion will take 24 months.

9. Messrs CCECC Nigeria will repair the damaged loops and ramps of the Third Mainland Bridge superstructure and rehab Adeniji-Falomo Roads at N42 billion. Completion time is six months.

10. The council approved the N158 billion contract to construct service lanes for the Lekki Deep Sea Port through Epe to Shagamu-Benin Expressway. Dangote Industries will be awarded the contract under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure Development Fund and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.

11. The council approved the contract for the dualisation of Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe Road in Ebonyi, Abia and Imo states. The road will be financed under the Federal Government Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme.

12. Also approved by the councils are contracts for the repair of 14 bridges and roads and flooded sections of the Federal Highways nationwide..

13. The council approved no fewer than seven memos brought by the FCT Ministry. Among them was the contract for the building of Judges Quarters in Katampe. Also approved was the contract to construct an access road from Ring Road 1 by N16 Shehu Shagari Way to Judges Quarters.

14. The council approved the contract for building an access road from Arterial Road N11 in Mabushi District to Judges Quarters within Cadstral Zone B07.

"This upgrade will open new avenues for investment, boost commerce, and enhance the connectivity of Oyo State to the rest of the world, bringing long-term benefits to the laboring southwest states," the Chairman stated.

Dr. GLORIOUS further emphasized that this upgrade will have developmental significance in Ona-Ara Local Government, as the larger percentage of the airport land is situated there. He also expressed his unwavering support for the ongoing infrastructural developments under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, emphasizing that such projects will elevate the economic status of Oyo State and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

The Ona Ara Local Government Secretariat was filled with excitement yesterday as prominent dignitaries, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, graced the 100 Days in Office celebration of the Local Government Chairman, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS. The event, marked by a series of project commissioning, was a testament to the progress and achievements of Dr. Glorious' administration in just a short time. 

In a statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Ona Ara Local Government Chairman, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, and made available to newsmen, the event was described as "a carnival-like celebration." Governor Seyi Makinde was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo, who in turn was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Akinropo.
Among the distinguished guests were Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Jagunmolu Olubadan of Ibadanland, who served as the chairman of the occasion and commissioned the renovated main entrance of the Local Government Secretariat while Governor Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Mr. Ajagbe commissioned the newly rebuilt reception. Also in attendance was the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Director General of the Oyo State Liaison Office in Lagos and Abuja, Hon. Chief (Dr.) Ezekiel Temitope Oladimeji OTOPE.

Other dignitaries who attended the event included: SSA to Governor on SDG, Hon. Mufutau Ogunremi, Hon. Windapo Oluwole, Vice Chairman and Political Head of INUKAN LCDA, Hon. Abolade Yerima, Leader of the Ona Ara Legislative Arm, Chief Emmanuel Ogunnaike (MFR), Chairman of FOL-HOPE Nigeria Limited and the first entrepreneur in Ona Ara, Hon. The traditional rulers were led by the Oniladuntan of Laduntan, HRH (Oba) Adebowale Kamorudeen JP, and included the Alajia of Ajia, HRH (Oba) Engr Nureni Yusuf; Ololosunde of Olosunde, HRH (Oba) Muili Mosaderin; and Alakanran of Akanran, HRH (Oba) Yekini Obisesan. Baálé Kure represented the Baales, accompanied by other traditional leaders.

Market traders were also present, led by Alhaja Saratu Aduke, the CAN Chairman , Representative of League of Imam among other dignitaries.

Asaba, Delta State - Team Oyo achieved a trifecta of medals on Sunday, September 15th, at the ongoing National Youth Games, solidifying its position as a top contender.

In the Table-tennis Boys Singles final, Ayoola Usman and Ayatullahi Ahmed faced off in an all-Oyo state showdown. After a thrilling five-set match, Ayoola Usman emerged victorious, claiming gold and reasserting Oyo state's dominance in cadet table-tennis. Ayatullahi Ahmed secured silver, ensuring a double medal haul for Team Oyo.

In athletics, Abass Ayomide Taofikat sprinted to a bronze medal in the 100m Girls' Final with an unofficial time of 12.10s.

Looking ahead to Monday, September 16th, Team Oyo's male football team is set to face Abia State in the semi-finals. Additionally, the female and male boxing teams will compete in their respective semi-finals, with Ahmed Mariam facing Bornu State and Adekunle Roqeeb facing his opponent from Akwa-ibom State.

With these latest wins, Team Oyo continues to make a strong impression at the National Youth Games.

 Team Oyo Dominates at National Youth Games, Wins Multiple Gold Medals



In Asaba, Delta State - Team Oyo has continued its impressive performance at the 8th National Youth Games, with its athletes claiming multiple gold medals in various events.


Owoyele Fathia made history by winning three gold medals in the 49kg Girls Weightlifting event, setting a new record for the highest individual gold medal haul for Team Oyo so far at the Games.


Later in the day, Ayoola Usman and Ayatullahi Ahmed secured another gold medal for Team Oyo in the Table-tennis Boys Doubles final, defeating Team Edo 3-1 in a thrilling match.


The gold rush continued in the athletics field events, where Malachi Ayinchie Clinton won gold in the Boys Shotput event with a throw of 13.86m.


Additionally, Timileyin Olaiya added to his medal tally with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle boys event, following his earlier silver medal win.


With these latest victories, Team Oyo has solidified its position as a top contender at the National Youth Games.


At the end of events from Saturday 14th 2024, Team Oyo had 6 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal.
